necromancer class reveal for Diablo 4, which might end up being the game's downfall.
Diablo 4 is the next installment in Blizzard's action RPG series. From what's been shown so far, it will be an open-world game, and Blizzard plans on making the map fairly massive. Both of those aspects will be new to Diablo, but not unwelcome. Diablo 4 will incorporate elements from past games, but also have new features. Players can the fight between the Heavens and Hells once more when Diablo 4 arrives in 2023.
The final of the 5 classes that Diablo 4 will feature at launch has been revealed as the necromancer, and it rounds out a set without any new or groundbreaking classes being featured. The classes available at launch will be barbarian, druid, sorceress, rogue, and necromancer. However, Diablo 4's character customization gives more freedom than its predecessors, which might help make up for the lack of new classes.
Necromancer Proves Blizzard Is Being Too Safe With Diablo 4's Classes
After the lackluster launch of Diablo 3 followed by Diablo Immortal quickly earning the title of Blizzard's worst-ranked game, Blizzard needs Diablo 4 to redeem the franchise. It isn't surprising that Blizzard is playing it safe in regards to Diablo 4 and trying to reclaim what fans loved about Diablo 2. But in doing so, Blizzard is stifling the creative potential of its development team. Diablo Immortal was ruined by microtransactions, and Blizzard doesn't seem to be including anything quite so severe in Diablo 4, limiting its paid content to cosmetics and story expansions, which solves one of the biggest problems of the most recent Diablo game. Sticking too closely to the style and set-up of Diablo 2 will make Diablo 4 too predictable and could take away from the feeling of experiencing a new game with a new world. Even if Blizzard is unwilling to take big risks with Diablo 4, which the necromancer class seems to indicate, it should encourage its creative team to make sure that the game feels fresh and exciting. The necromancer reveal video can be viewed below:
Blizzard is preparing to release the much-anticipated Diablo 4 in 2023, and the class list has been finished with the reveal of the necromancer. For the game's launch, Blizzard is playing it too safe and using classes that have been in the franchise previously instead of adding any new ones that could innovate the series. Though it makes sense for Blizzard to be cautious given the disappointment from fans in the most recent Diablo games, the studio needs to make sure that safety doesn't come at the cost of creativity in Diablo 4.
