The release of They/Them, a new horror movie which focuses on a group of LGBTQ+ teens at a conversion camp who are targeted by a killer, looks poised to be a fascinating look at the way that horror continues to be one of the best genres for offering insight into the current state of humanity. 532n31

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest is one of those classic motion pictures that has aged well and is still entertaining today. Milos Forman’s adaptation of the novel of the same name starred Jack Nicholson as a merry inmate who pleads for insanity and lands in a ward for the mentally unstable. There, he starts a revolution of his own, leading the scared inmates to live their life more freely while going against the oppressive Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher).

After making a splash with his feature directorial debut on Blumhouse's dramatic thriller The Gift, actor turned filmmaker Joel Edgerton returns to the helm for Boy Erased, a movie based on Garrard Conley's memoir about his experiences as a young man in a gay conversion therapy program. Much like this year's true story-inspired drug addiction drama Beautiful Boy, Edgerton's sophomore go-round as a director has garnered acclaim for its sensitive handling of (sadly) relevant subject matter, as much as anything else. Indeed, in many ways, the two films have similar strengths and weaknesses, on the whole. Well acted and thoughtfully directed, Boy Erased is a comionate memoir that nevertheless struggles to leave much of an emotional impact.

Focus Features has released a second trailer for Boy Erased, in an effort to give Joel Edgerton's gay conversion therapy drama one final marketing push before it opens in theaters. Adapted from Garrard Conley's memoir, the movie stars Lucas Hedges as Jared Eamons, a semi-fictionalized version of Conley who is outed as gay when he's 19 and agrees to enter a gay conversation therapy program, lest he be shunned by his Baptist parents and friends. Hedges is ed in the film's cast by Oscar-winners Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe as Jared's mother and father, the latter of which is also his pastor at church.

Actor/director Joel Egerton brings Garrard Conley's memoir to cinematic life in the first trailer for his feature, Boy Erased. Lucas Hedges (Manchester By the Sea; Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) stars in the film as Garrard Conley, who is nineteen when he is outed to his small town parents, including his Baptist pastor father Marshall (Russell Crowe) and mother Nancy (Nicole Kidman). Garrard is then pressured into attending a conversion therapy program run by one Victor Sykes (Edgerton).
