It has been almost 15 years since the last Shrek film came out, meaning the hype surrounding Shrek 5 is high, but I would much rather see other sequels from DreamWorks. As its title suggests, the animated fantasy comedy will serve as the fifth Shrek movie, but is also the seventh installment in the entire Shrek franchise (which includes the Puss in Boots spinoffs). But after the credits roll on the Forgotten Realms, there are plenty more fantasy adventure films that scratch the D&D itch.

It's been close to a decade since the last chapter, but Shrek 5 will reacquaint audiences with the land far, far away. It's certainly exciting, but I'm still struggling to know what to expect from the blockbuster after how good Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was. Needless to say, Shrek changed animated movies forever and has since seen a collection of sequels in its wake. ittedly, Shrek 2 is my favorite film in the franchise, so I would argue this is where the main story peaks — with Puss in Boots 2 being the first installment to meet the quality of Shrek 2.

The film was a success boith critically and commercially, and it's since been revealed that Shrek 5 is in development, opening the door to a host of exciting character returns.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was a sleeper hit at the box office last year, and the movie is now repeating that very same success on streaming platforms. Directed by Joel Crawford, the sequel to 2011's Puss in Boots sees Antonio Banderas return to voice the titular cat after his initial introduction in 2004's Shrek 2.
