Based on the UK series of the same name, Ghostsquickly got to the point of its storytelling. Each of the spirits had their problematic and toxic traits, with the idea that they would grow into better people to allow them to into the afterlife. Arguably, the most toxic and problematic character to start the series has become a favorite for many, and it’s all thanks to the growth he's received throughout the four seasons of Ghosts on CBS.

Although Ghosts season 4 was a fun outing in general, season 5 really needs to end the CBS sitcom’s unnecessary reliance on cliffhanger endings. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are what keep viewers coming back every week, as the CBS sitcom crams a variety of characters from various historical eras under the same roof and watches the chaos that ensues. The show’s comedy is its main selling point, but Ghosts season 4’s finale proved that the sitcom has a dramatic edge too.

Although Ghosts season 4’s finale didn’t quite give away the next spirit to leave the Woodstone Mansion, I still think I’ve worked out who it will be from context clues. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are what make the show so great, as the CBS sitcom has characters from many major historical epochs all coexisting relatively amicably under the same roof. Vikings form friendships with Indigenous Americans, hippies rub shoulders with Gilded Age high-society ladies, and the resulting chaos forms the show’s entire appeal.

Although the Ghosts season 4 finale left Jay in a tricky position thanks to his ill-advised deal with Elias, there are numerous ways for the character to reverse this decision in season 5. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts might be the show’s true heroes, but that doesn’t mean that Rose McIver’s Sam or Utkarsh Ambudkar’s Jay are wasted by the CBS series. On the contrary, the sitcom’s human characters are central to some of the show’s most moving moments, as they often help facilitate the wishes of the ghosts.

Although Ghosts season 4 may be over, there is an ideal replacement sitcom waiting for viewers on Hulu. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are an irreplaceable group of oddballs, and it is hard to imagine the show’s premise working with another set of mismatched souls all confined to the same small setting. However, as Patience’s role in Ghosts season 4’s finale proves, the sitcom can still add new characters to the mix and maintain its original appeal even as the show enters its fifth year.
