The Suicide Squad director James Gunn says he once pitched a movie of Gilligan’s Island with a cannibal twist. The original show about a group of castaways becoming stranded on a desert island during what was supposed to be just a three-hour-tour aired on CBS from 1964 to 1967.

Dawn Wells, who starred as Mary Ann Summers on the beloved 1960s sitcom Gilligan's Island has ed away at the age of 82. Wells was born on October 18, 1938 in Reno, Nevada. Before fully beginning her acting career, Wells graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in theater arts and design. Her education served her well, as she went on to star in dozens of projects over her long life. In the early 1960s, she guest-starred on shows like Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, and Bonanza.

There was a time in American television when you could turn on the TV and find some truly outlandish sitcoms, and there was no period that was as good for these zany comedies than the 1960s. This was the decade that produced such gems as Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie.

Gilligan’s Islandis like nothing else that has ever been on television (up until that point). Telling the story of a group of castaways who find themselves stranded on an island as a result of a vicious storm, it lasted for three seasons. Each episode usually featured the islanders encountering some strange person or thing, hijinks ensuring, and everything being resolved by the end.

The castaways on Gilligan's Island are always getting up to some sort of wacky antics. Light-hearted, friendly, and fun, the group of seven has their flaws, but they genuinely love each other and want to take care of one another.

Rebooting beloved 1960s TV programs - in an effort to reap a sizable profit and/or launch a modern franchise - is old hat in Hollywood (see: Bewitched, Get Smart and, more recently, Dark Shadows), but despite the uneven box office results for past attempts, there are still some big '60s small screen properties that remain likely to be re-plundered for new financial gain in the future (I Dream of Jeannie, among them).

This just in! Hollywood has found someone to make a movie from an original idea – too bad it isn’t a NEW original idea. Warner Bros and Atlas Entertainment have drawn the short straw decided to move forward with the big screen adaptation of LostGilligan’s Island. Writing the screenplay will be Brad Copeland, who is also writing scripts for the Flight of the Navigatorremake, Monster Squad and the Yogi Bear adaptation. If that isn’t enough to get you on the excitement train, then you’ll be happy to hear he also wrote Wild Hogs *thud*. On board to produce for Atlas Entertainment is Charles Roven (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and Richard Suckle; Sherwood Schwartz, the show’s original producer and composer of the main title theme, will serve as Executive Producer with his son Lloyd Schwartz. Jon Berg will watch over the project for Warner Bros. Roven said that he wants to put a contemporary twist on the well-known story and characters and will not look for a director until after the script is finished.
