Netflix will be removing Lilyhammer, the streaming service's first original show, from the platform in November. The series was a crime comedy-drama following a former gangster from New York named Frank "The Fixer" Talgiano, played by The Sopranos' Steve Van Zandt who seeks a fresh start where no one from his past will be able to find him in Lillehammer, Norway. The show ran for three seasons, the first of which aired on Norwegian broadcast channel NRK1, before getting picked up by Netflix for its two subsequent seasons before it was canceled. 4f5r57

As Lilyhammer celebrates its 10th anniversary, star Steven Van Zandt recalls the crazy pitch he gave Netflix. Most audiences either know Van Zandt from his work as Silvio Dante on HBO's The Sopranos or from his music career as a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. However, he also starred as Frank Tagliano in Lilyhammer, Netflix's first original series, which debuted in 2012. Lilyhammer, created by Eilif Skodvin and Anne Bjørnstad, follows Van Zandt's former New York mobster hiding out in the small Norwegian town of Lillehammer after testifying against his former associates.

Though starring in a show like The Sopranos' more-or-less automatically rules that as the highlight of an actor's career, it is always nice to see an alum of the prestigious HBO drama still deliver the goods.

The fish out of water story is one of the most prominent in television, and it almost always takes the form of a comedy. It’s not hard to see why: after all, there’s something intrinsically funny about someone taken out of their expected circumstances and placed into ones that are totally unfamiliar to them.
