Warning: contains spoilers for Justice Society of America #10!Hawkman’s powers of reincarnation make him unique in the DC Universe, but it comes with a dark side, one that takes its toll on the WInged Wonder. Hawkman’s ability to reincarnate has ensured his survival across the eons. He recently reed his friends in the Justice Society, and in issue 10 of Justice Society of America, he reincarnates in the midst of battle, but the experience rattles him greatly.

Since the Golden Age, Hawkman has remained among DC's most underrated superheroes. Initially based on the Hawkmen from Flash Gordon comic strips, the hero has evolved into one of the industry's most complicated origins. In 2018, Robert Venditti and Bryan Hitch revitalized the character, giving him his own solo ongoing series for the first time in years, and set out to definitively establish his continuity once and for all.

An epic newHawkman cosplay proves the character should have been as R-rated as Wolverine. Mainstream audiences met Hawkman in 2022’s Black Adam movie, but the character’s comic history is rich, stretching back to the Golden Age. More modern interpretations of the character lean on his brutal background on the planet Thanagar. Now, cosplayer Christian Perera has brought Hawkman to amazing life, showing the Thanagarian can be just as savage as Wolverine.

In the dynamic realm of cosplay, where the sky is often the limit on intricate craftsmanship, Hawkman and Hawkgirl have brilliantly soared to new heights. At Dragon Con 2023, cosplayers Amy Nicole & Havok (@teamfirestormcosplay) brilliantly portrayed Shiera Sanders and Carter Hall, masterfully embodying the avian-themed heroes, and capturing the essence of these iconic characters. Their meticulous attention to detail shines, through as they expertly replicated DC's most challenging costumes.

When it comes to Superman's greatest weakness, there is no competing with kryptonite when it comes to the most famous. But fans may be less aware that the Man of Tomorrow also doesn't fare too well against magic... but his teammate Hawkman may actually have an answer to this problem. Where kryptonite can be blocked by lead, magic is vulnerable to the very metal making up Hawkman's blade.

While the Justice Leaguemay work together to save the world on a daily basis, that doesn't mean they always get on. That's true for no-one more than Green Arrow and Hawkman, who have a long history of viciously butting heads. Now, that old grudge will end in a truly horrifying final battle thanks to DC's vampire apocalypse, which has turned Hawkman into an undead villain.

One would think the ancient duo ofHawkgirl andHawkmanwould be made stronger by their immortality, but a recent comic may just prove other. In a tie-in to DC's Dark Crisis event, a world showing one of Hawkgirl's greatest desires actually shows that she and her partner would likely be even bigger threats if they didn't know they'd be resurrected after death.

DC Comics once briefly introduced a character who bore striking resemblance to the X-Men's Angel--then killed him off in the same issue. Hawkman, introduced in 1940, is both one of DC's most essential and most complicated characters, owed largely to the convoluted nature of his history and origin. Hawkman has alternately been Carter Hall, an ancient Egyptian prince reincarnated as an archaeologist, Katar Hol, a police officer from the planet Thanagar, or sometimes a combination of elements that seems to vary from story to story and continuity to continuity. Although several stories have tried to make sense of the Hawkman continuity, it is fair to say that it's this convolution that keeps many readers away from Hawkman. This is unfortunate, considering the number of thrilling and pivotal stories that have featured Hawkman.
