Kate Mulgrew's iral Janeway's appearance in 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis earned Star Trek: Voyager a plaudit that it had been trying to achieve since the first movie starring Star Trek: The Next Generation's cast. Mulgrew led the Star Trek: Voyager cast throughout all seven seasons, but because the show began after TNG had already concluded, the only chance for her to appear alongside Patrick Stewart and company was in one of his Star Trek movies. Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) uncharacteristically dismisses Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) in Star Trek: Nemesis,proving the film fundamentally misunderstood him as a character. While Nemesis has its fair share of flaws, one of the film's biggest sins is its mischaracterization of Jean-Luc Picard.

Ron Perlman is a powerhouse of an actor, capable of commanding attention whether he's voicing an animated character or playing a live-action villain, but Star Trek: Nemesis completely wasted him as The Viceroy. Perlman's character serves as the second-in-command to Shinzon, the film’s central villain. The Viceroy is one of the Remans, a slave species within the Romulan Star Empire, who helps Shinzon seize control of Romulus and target Earth in Star Trek: Nemesis.

The fourth and final Star Trek: The Next Generation movie, Star Trek: Nemesis, put a nail in the coffin of what was—at the time—a dying Star Trek franchise. Star Trek: Nemesis saw Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) confront a younger clone of himself, Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who had been created by Romulans to secretly replace Picard. Shinzon had been discarded to the mines of Remus before becoming the new Romulan Praetor to exact his revenge. Star Trek: Nemesis' subplot featured the discovery of B-4 (Brent Spiner), an inferior Soong-type android built before Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner).

Star Trek: Nemesis has a moment that is even more disturbing than one of the most uncomfortable scenes in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Near the end of Star Trek VI, Lieutenant Valeris (Kim Cattrall) is revealed to be an on-board conspirator in the murder of Klingon Chancellor Gorkon (David Warner). Captain Spock (Leonard Nimoy) forces Valeris into a mind meld in order to confirm her guilt and retrieve the names of her co-conspirators. Spock is successful at obtaining the information, but not before Valeris pulls away and Spock asserts his control over her.

Star Trek: Nemesis brought together the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation for their fourth and final big-screen adventure. Directed by Stuart Baird, and written by the Academy Award-nominated John Logan, Star Trek: Nemesis premiered in December 2002. Unfortunately, Star Trek: Nemesis ranks as the lowest-grossing Star Trek movie, and it was a bomb with critics and audiences that resulted in the end of the Star Trek: The Next Generation movie franchise.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) briefly had a clone on Star Trek: The Next Generation long before Shinzon (Tom Hardy) appeared in Star Trek: Nemesis. The final TNG film saw the crew of the USS Enterprise-E face off against Shinzon after he took control of the Romulan Empire. The Romulans created a clone of Picard to act as a spy within the Federation, but they soon abandoned the project and sent Shinzon to a Reman labor camp. Shinzon later rebelled against the Romulan Empire and made plans to attack the United Federation of Planets.

Two of Hollywood's biggest stars got their big break in Star Trek movies. The Star Trek franchise has a long history of making strong casting choices, from Star Trek: The Original Series through today. For many actors, Star Trek was their first notable role before they went on to have incredible Hollywood careers. Patrick Stewart, for example, was referred to as "an unknown British actor" when he was cast as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, but the Star Trek: The Next Generation actor has since become a legend of film and television.

When I watched Star Trek: Nemesisn 2002, I really had no idea I was witnessing the birth of a star in Tom Hardy. Directed by Stuart Baird from a screenplay by John Logan, Star Trek: Nemesis was the final movie starring the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The lowest grossing of Star Trek's 13 theatrical feature films, Star Trek: Nemesis was also a bomb with critics and audiences, although the blame for its failure doesn't fall on the shoulders of Tom Hardy, who played the main villain, Shinzon.
