The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes producer Nina Jacobson has teased the possibility of more books in The Hunger Games series from author Suzanne Collins. The movie is based on Collins' prequel novel of the same name, following a young Coriolanus Snow prior to his rule over Panem. Expanding the franchise's universe, the movie is set 64 years before the original movie series.

What Could A New Hunger Games Book Be About?

Coriolanus Snow and Lucy Gray Baird against The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes backdrop.

Collins originally wrote The Hunger Games trilogy to be three books focusing on Katniss Everdeen and her struggles against the Games and the tyrannical corruption in Panem. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is her prequel novel, which focuses on historical elements not touched upon in the original trilogy. With decades of history to explore in its world, there are plenty of stories new novels in the series could tell.

Much like the movie, new books could explore events prior to the original trilogy, such as the early Hunger Games, the First Rebellion, or the formation of Panem itself. More could touch upon the effects of the Games being abolished at the end of Mockingjay and what it means for the nation. No matter the premise, any new book in the franchise written by Collins would end up wildly different from the entries already established.

For now, though, it seems the prequel film will be the last in the franchise unless Collins pens another novel. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes cast might be the last to bring the world of Panem to life. However, Collins could still write another book in the future, which could continue The Hunger Games film franchise well beyond its forthcoming prequel.
