Tony Stark is sometimes seen as one of the least likable of the Avengers because he has a more abrasive personality. He has some negative personality traits, but so do most of the other Avengers. Tony Stark in the MCU also has many good qualities and does a lot of things that make him a hero. But, while many people agree that Iron Man is heroic, he’s not often thought about as being nice.
While there’s no denying that Tony Stark can be a bit arrogant and selfish, he does go on a journey and long character arc to become a better person and learn to connect with other people. And, he does some surprisingly nice things for the people around him throughout the movies.
Bought Pepper a giant stuffed rabbit
This isn’t higher on the list because it’s more of a joke. While Tony was trying to do something nice for Pepper by buying her the giant stuffed bunny, he didn’t really know what it was doing. It definitely wasn’t a gift that Pepper would like, and he didn’t seem to know her that well when he got it for her which is rather sad given how long he’s known her.
However, his heart did seem to be in the right place even if he did need to try a little harder. It was only slightly better than when he got her strawberries that she was allergic to.
Designed suits and tech for the Avengers
While Tony might have been a difficult person for some of the other Avengers to connect with because he masks his feelings with humor. However, he did try to them and showed he was thinking about them when he would create things like suits and weapons for them.
Given that this is his area of expertise, it’s not surprising that he would show he cared about people by giving gifts.
Created the Avengers Compound
Tony Stark is a billionaire, so he’s able to buy really expensive things. He’s able to purchase things that most of us couldn’t even dream of, but he does at least try to use his money to help people after he becomes Iron Man.
He creates the Avengers Compound in Upstate New York as a home for many of the heroes who don’t really have anywhere else to go. They can train there and live there and have a place to call their own.
Looked out for Peter Parker
The mentor relationship between Tony and Peter is one of the most endearing relationships in the MCU. It’s clear that Tony wants to be able to be a father-type figure for others, but he doesn't quite believe in his ability to do so.
However, he cares a lot about Peter and does things like create Spider-Man suits and also tries to keep him out of too much trouble while still giving him the opportunity to learn.
Tried to pay for damage done by the Avengers
The Avengers end up doing a lot of damage to property when saving the world, and it’s usually not exactly their fault as they are often dealing with aliens and other villains who don’t care about hurting others.
Luckily, Tony is there with all of his money to try and fix things. He also put money and time into creating a renewable energy source to try and make the world a better place.
Took the nuke up into the wormhole
One of Tony Stark’s best and most heroic moments is when he took the nuke up into space at the end of the first Avengers movie. While he spent much of that movie saying that he would make sure he would never need to make the sacrifice play, he proves that he’s willing to do so when it comes down to it.
Luckily, in this situation, Tony survived the ordeal, but he did take up the warhead in order to protect millions of other people from dying, and he put his own life at risk to do so.
Gifted Harley his own lab
Long before Tony ever had a child of his own, he showed he wasn’t nearly as heartless or selfish as he liked to portray himself as. After Harley helped Tony in Iron Man 3, Tony was able to return the favor.
He gave Harley lots of high-tech items in his shed so that he could do his own inventing and science, and it was definitely one of Tony’s most endearing moments.
Followed Cap To Try To Help
Though things didn't exactly end well, Tony was ready to help Steve out even after their big clash at the airport. As soon as Tony understood he had been wrong about some of the details of the situation, he immediately flew out to back Steve up, even though he was injured himself.
Although the truce didn't last, it showed Tony really did care and wanted to do what was right.
Was a great dad to Morgan
While a young Tony Stark probably wouldn’t have made the best father, Tony changed a lot during his journey in the MCU. He became a devoted husband and an even better dad, and it’s clear that he loved Morgan more than anything.
He was very involved, and she clearly loved her dad in return. His scenes with her in Avengers: Endgame were definitely some of the best and showed just how far he’d come from being a billionaire playboy who didn’t care about anything or anyone.
Sacrificed himself to save the universe
This is the nicest as well as the most heroic thing that Tony ever did. He was a savior of sorts who sacrificed himself in order to save anyone else, and while he’s not the only hero who would have made this move, he is the one who got the Infinity Gauntlet and had to make that choice.
He knew he would die, but there was really no other choice but to snap his fingers and make everything right.
