Undoubtedly the two biggest pop culture properties on the planet are MCU, two colossi living under the Disney umbrella. Over the years, many fans have pondered over a crossover between the two, a 'what-if' scenario. It is safe to say there would be some fascinating character dynamics should that take place, with some characters destined to be friends, while others not so much.

Both franchises are bursting with explosive, otherworldly personalities. Between that and the characters' ideals, goals, and story, some beautiful friendships could blossom, but so too could disastrous rivalries.

Would

Groot/Rocket & R2-D2/C-3PO

Would these four argue constantly? Undoubtedly. However, as both Star Wars and the MCU have proved, the best of friends argue on a pretty constant basis.

With the sass of Artoo and Groot coming together, Threepio's probable ability to understand Groot, and the fact that they are all good at different things, these four make a pair of odd couples that just work. Chewbacca is another Star Wars character who could very well be friends with Rocket and Groot, so could Chopper, especially with Rocket.

Rey & Gamora

These two badass women would not only be friends, but a truly intimidating pair. However, they share many similarities that stretch far beyond their ability in a fight.

Both reject their family for a new, better family (Rey rejects Palpatine for Skywalker, Gamora rejects Thanos for the Guardians), and both have an incredible desire to do good - despite a possible shell on the outside. There would be a lot of respect between these two, as well as a lot of care when they spend enough time being more vulnerable with and fighting alongside each other.

Pé Amidala & T'Challa

Even though one dons the Black Panther costume and the other dons a slew of grandiose royal outfits, there are many similarities between Pé and T'Challa, and there would undoubtedly be a friendship there.

These two are all about self-sacrifice, giving their lives to their people, fighting however they can to provide them with fair and peaceful lives. That would birth so much mutual respect. They would undoubtedly bond over the problematic transitions of politics and the intricacies of balancing fighting for democracy with any personal life. T'Challa and Pé are two true, intelligent diplomats, fighters, and leaders, but not arrogant ones who would butt heads, respectable ones who would listen and value the input of the other.

Leia Organa & Shuri

Just as their respective mother and brother would make for a good friendship, so too would Leia and Shuri, two of the fiercest, strongest, and most intelligent characters of their respective universes, and two characters full of both confidence and responsibility.

While these two would undoubtedly come to heated verbal blows over some disagreement down the line, that is more indicative of their ion and fire, not of their lack of compatibility as friends. These two women grew up with the resources to do whatever they wanted but chose the lives they did and could very well bond over it while also hitting other characters with hilarious digs.

Ahsoka Tano & Peter Parker

There are two eras of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars; her younger, fiercer, more immature side from The Clone Wars and her more sage, experienced outing from The Mandalorian. Peter Parker would be friends with both.

They would undoubtedly bond over their deep kindness and desire to do good in the world, to help those who ask for it and who need it. Any advice wise Ahsoka would have for Peter would be welcomed with open arms just as he embraced most of the lessons he learned from Tony; they would have a relationship akin to that of Ahsoka and Ezra. These are two of their respective franchise's best characters and would form a fantastic friendship.

Captain Rex & Steve Rogers

Captain Rex may not be the first Star Wars character that pops into fans' minds, but he is a terrific character crucial to the prequel era. He would also make a great friend and ally to the MCU's resident captain, Steve Rogers.

The two share a lot more than rank. They are so intensely loyal and dedicated to fighting for their cause, were genetically modified/created, and learned the hard way that blindly following authority figures is not the best way to do things. On a lighter note, both Captains have a sense of humor, providing very funny quotes, and are wonderful friends as well as allies. On top of the fact they would highly revere one another and their accomplishments, they would bond over these shared experiences and traits.

Would Not

Mace Windu & Nick Fury

To say these two would not get on is debatable. To many, their similarities and the fact they are both played by the same badass make them seem like a great potential friendship. But ultimately they're a bad match.

Would there be respect there? Absolutely. However, both are so fiercely stoic and dedicated to their organizations, organizations with very different ideals despite both being forces for good. Due to factors such as Fury's military life and Windu's hubris and arrogance, it is hard to imagine the pair palling around.

Luke Skywalker & Loki

Luke Skywalker is arguably more complex than he gets credit for, especially with all the awful things that happen to him and through his time in the sequels. However, he does not have the complexities of Loki that could see them bond; instead, they would just annoy one another.

Luke is a hero, a force for good, someone never tempted by the cruel or mischievous side of life, which is where Loki so often resides. Loki's hilarious temperament and complex depth would likely frustrate a younger Luke and not get much love from an older Luke. Likewise, Loki would be far more interested in interacting with other Star Wars characters.

Anakin Skywalker & Iron Man

Split image of Anakin Skywalker & Iron Man in Star Wars & Marvel

Iron Man is arguably the central figure of the MCU, while Anakin Skywalker is undoubtedly the main character of the Skywalker saga. But, just because they are characters with incredible main character energy, that does not mean they would get on.

Tony would just insult Anakin and make fun little jabs at him, which would frustrate Anakin. On top of that, Tony would likely view Anakin as a child with too much pride, confidence, and power for his own good. Anakin is not a petulant child and is very much like Tony in the way he has fun at work and holds incredible intelligence. But, despite that and despite all their shared complexities and trauma, it is hard to imagine these two getting on beyond mutual respect without bumping heads constantly.

Darth Sidious & Thanos

Split image of Darth Sidious & Thanos in Star Wars & Marvel

Darth Sidious and Thanos are unquestionably each other's counterparts between these two franchises, but that means nothing in of a possible friendship. These characters do not have friends; if they did, it would not be each other.

That all boils down to the type of villain they are. Thanos is working for a goal, for a higher purpose than himself that he views as the be-all-end-all. He is the hero of his own story, and audiences understand him. Sidious, though, is pure evil. He wants to rule the Galaxy as its dictator, he wants unlimited power and would do anything to have it. They are both geniuses, both iconic villains, both with phenomenally evil lines and moments, but they would be far from friends.
