Disney+ recently had a second launch across Europe meaning that it's now had most of its major releases. However, what's included in the streaming service, or rather isn't included, may surprise some people!
While some of the films and series seem like odd choices to have on the platform, other content is strangely missing from Disney+. Here are 5 things we're surprised made the cut and 5 we thought would absolutely get a spot on the service.
Omission: American Dragon
This was a show that's held close to many people's hearts. Airing during the mid-2000s, this was a classic Saturday morning cartoon that managed to combine both martial arts and mythology into really fun episodes.
While other animated shows from the era have been given their due on Disney+, this is one show that is strangely missing. It's odd since so many people have fond memories of both Jake Long and that killer theme tune.
Inclusion: The Apple Dumpling Gang
One of the most absurd inclusions onto the streaming platforms is multiple movies from the Apple Dumpling Gang. This old western series is just as strange and wacky as you might expect and isn't exactly a fondly ed era of Disney.
These buffoons aren't exactly the most compelling characters and this is certainly from a strange time of Disney films where westerns were becoming all the rage. However, it's a film that certainly won't resonate nowadays.
Omission: The Muppet Show
Most of the Muppets are available on Disney+, but the original show that brought them to fame is strangely missing. The reason for this is likely due to distribution rights and we can imagine that the house of mouse is working hard to rectify this.
However, it would be a shame to completely ignore that classic series as a lot of the shows also set up the later films that are on Disney+ to enjoy. We just hope that the situation is sorted really soon so we can enjoy Kermit's original adventures.
Inclusion: Million Dollar Duck
This movie is just as weird as you might expect. The plot centers around scientists discovering a duck that can lay golden eggs. Of course, this bird is worth a fortune and is at the epicenter of a lot of conflict around the money.
Not only is the film terrible, but it's one that likely no one will be looking up to watch. It's strange that the film is actually taking a slot from some of the other classics that haven't made the cut and are featured on this list.
Omission: X-Men
It's odd that in the US there are mutant movies missing and in the UK only some of them have been put onto Disney+. Perhaps this is also due to distribution issues, but the studio does now own FOX and therefore the majority of its rights.
It's also strange that versions of the films are on different iterations of Disney+ but other ones are missing. Clearly there's a complicated process surrounding getting those rights but we hope to see Wolverine, Rogue, and Storm on the platform in the future.
Inclusion: The Secret Of The Magic Gourd
Originally made for distribution in China, this odd movie has found its way onto Disney+ and viewers are definitely puzzled by it. The film looks at the relationship between a young boy and a magical fruit as they go on adventures together.
This is hardly James and his peach and we're shocked that this made the cut for Disney+. Perhaps this has been included in order to demonstrate the wide range of content that the studio produces across its many different markets.
Omission: Aladdin: The Series
This is one of Disney's most famous characters. While all his films are online, including the animated sequels and the live-action outing, his popular animated series remains hidden from fans until such a time that Disney decides to release it.
The only reason this must be is to drop the show at a more convenient time. They have the rights to show it, but they must be saving it to coincide with another live-action film or perhaps even the Disney+ spin-off we've heard about.
Inclusion: First Kid
We know all about the first lady, but what about the first kid? The child of the President needs their own security detail but things get pretty dangerous once he manages to escape them to go and have fun.
This film is cheesy, over the top and it's difficult to understand who this is really made for unless the target audience is incredibly young kids. It's hardly a classic and no one would have missed it if it had sat on the shelves.
Omission: Once Upon A Deadpool
Despite the fact that Marvel is heavily rumored to want to include Deadpool in the MCU and that this version of the film is child friendly, it still remains strangely absent from Disney+.
Speculation has suggested that this is so that Marvel fans don't get confused about whats in the MCU, but there's also been talk that it may be due to Hulu. However, it still seems quite strange that this version of the movie isn't available on this streaming service.
Inclusion: Fantastic Four
The FF is Marvel's first family and the attempts to make films based on them have been mixed at best. Which is why we're so surprised that Disney decided to include some of these movies, rather than dropping them on Disney+.
The varied quality and the fact that Marvel wants them in the MCU in the future means that it would make sense to leave them off. What's more, in the UK only the sequel is available which is an incredibly odd choice when taking public opinion about Marvel movies in general into .
