Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Pitt season 1, episode 15.Many fans of The Pitt's cast are returning, and which have had their final day at PTMC.

Most of The Pitt's doctors and nurses will return for the second season. Gemmill himself has said as much, “We’ll see everybody [from Season 1], for the most part. Some people might be working different hours and different shifts, but it’s pretty much the same crew,” (via Dana (Katherine LaNasa) may have quit in The Pitt. Luckily, Gemmill has outright confirmed that The Pitt season 2 will feature these eight characters.

8 Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch

Played By: Noah Wyle

Perhaps as a surprise to no one, Dr. Robby will return in The Pitt season 2. While speaking with TVLine, Gemmill outright confirmed that they had plans for Robby's emotional story in The Pitt season 2.

I will say that Robby has taken steps in the interim to get better. Whether those go as well as one could hope is another thing. I think Season 2 will be about him and a journey, but I think he has moved to a good place with the Adamson of it all.

We want to learn what Robby has been doing to heal himself... Getting himself mentally healthy again is part of his journey.

Based on Gemmill's comments, The Pitt season 2 will likely throw new challenges at Robby that will test his will and mental health in new ways. He mentioned that Dr. Adamson's death won't weigh on him nearly as much in the next season, both because it will no longer be the anniversary and because Robby has processed some of that trauma. Robby could also follow up on his falling out with Jake (Taj Speights) after the death of his girlfriend at the PittFest shooting. Regardless of what Robby's mental health journey looks like, it's confirmed that The Pitt season 2 will depict it.

7 Dr. Frank Langdon

Played By: Patrick Ball

Robby's story in The Pitt season 2 will probably have a major focus on another returning character, Dr. Frank Langdon. At the end of The Pitt season 1, Robby forced Langdon to it himself to rehab and a 12-step program for his drug misuse. As Gemmill told TVLine, The Pitt season 2 will follow Langdon's return to PTMC and working under Robby after going through Narcotics Anonymous.

I think we will pick up on Langdon’s first day back at work, but it’ll be more than a month…. The biggest driver of [the Season 2 time jump is] Langdon. Thirty days is probably the minimum he would have to do. You can do 60, 90… and part of [the time jump] is driven by when we can shoot in Pittsburgh. We’re going to do Fourth of July weekend. Nine, basically 10 months later, gives a lot of room for us to have developed a few stories in the interim and catch up with everyone. And with it being Langdon’s first day back, we get to catch up as he catches up with all those people.

It seems that Langdon will take an even bigger role in The Pitt season 2 than he did in the first season. As Gemmill hinted at, Langdon will become the window for the audience into all the changes and new additions to PTMC. That could mean that instead of focusing on a new batch of interns making introductions on their first day, we'll meet the new cast of The Pitt season 2 as they introduce themselves to Langdon after nine months away.

6 Storylines The Pitt Season 1 Sets Up For Season 2

The season finale of The Pitt did an excellent job of wrapping everything up while keeping some doors open for the second season.

Langdon's story also has plenty of intriguing directions it could take in The Pitt season 2. He's obviously lost Robby's trust by stealing medicine from the hospital, but Langdon also owes Dr. Santos an apology for being antagonistic towards her, and he'll have to do a lot of work to repair his damaged reputation with the other doctors. We could also see him struggle with his addiction as he returns to the high-stress environment of the ER and gets easy access to narcotics again. Langdon's story may well be worthy of being the main focus of The Pitt season 2.

6 Dennis Whitaker

Played By: Gerran Howell

The entire cast of The Pitt will experience some big changes between seasons, including Dennis Whitaker. Gemmill has noted that Whitaker is returning for The Pitt season 2, but the time jump means he'll have a different role at PTMC (via TVLine).

Because it will be July, everyone has been promoted or graduated to the next level. So, for instance, Whitaker will be an intern next year — so, finally, his character will finally be getting paid.

Whitaker's new role as an intern instead of a student doctor means there will likely be less focus on his money troubles and effective houselessness. Whitaker's twist at the end of The Pitt season 1 could also mean that he'll still be living with Dr. Santos, and the two may have an odd and humorous relationship after living together for several months. Additionally, Whitaker should become more sure of himself and confident after being promoted to an intern. The Pitt season 2 may end up showing a completely different version of Whitaker from the one we've gotten to know so far.

5 Victoria Javadi

Played By: Shabana Azeez

Alongside Whitaker, Victoria Javadi is also confirmed to be returning to The Pitt season 2 in a new role. Gemmill told TVLine that Javadi is making her way up the ranks of PTMC, but that's not necessarily what she wants to be doing.

Javadi is going to be doing a sub-internship, and we find out that maybe that’s just her stalling because she doesn’t want to make up her mind about where she wants to go.

Interestingly, Gemmill's comments indicate that he already has a good idea of Javadi's story. Along with her uncertainty about her career, Javadi could see more problems working with her mother, and The Pitt season 2 may even see her in the midst of a relationship with Mateo (Jalen Thomas Brooks). Alternatively, we may see the aftermath of a relationship between Mateo and Javadi, which could create some awkward (and likely funny) interactions in the ER. There's also a hint in Gemmill's comments that Javadi will need a bit of mentorship from one of the more experienced doctors, which could create a new relationship dynamic for her.

4 Dr. Jack Abbot

Played By: Shawn Hatosy

It's not just the main crew under Dr. Robby who will make appearances in The Pitt season 2, however. As Gemmill confirmed to TVLine, Dr. Jack Abbot will be coming back in some capacity, though his fondness for the night shift seemingly confirms he'll be a ing character again.

Abbot loves the night shift, so he’s not going to work a day shift if he doesn’t want to, but we have a surprise for him next season.

Though Abbot is seemingly just a ing character in The Pitt season 2, Gemmill's comments confirm that he's already planning something for Hatosy's fan-favorite character. There could be another mass casualty event - perhaps a big fireworks mishap - that brings Abbot in early, or he may come in as a patient himself. Whatever Gemmill and the rest of the writers of The Pitt season 2 have planned for Abbot is probably more surprising than we can predict, and it will likely work just as well as everything else they've written.

3 Dr. Trinity Santos

Played By: Isa Briones

Another returning character who should prove integral to the plot of The Pitt season 2 is Dr. Trinity Santos. R. Scott Gemmill noted that her dynamic with Whitaker and the complexity of her character both serve as signs that she could be a mainstay of The Pitt long after season 2 (via TVLine).

Santos and Whittaker are… The Odd Couple. [Laughs] I don’t know…. We talk about it, and then we shy away from it, because I think there’s a beauty to the premise in its simplicity and it’s singularity, and I hate messing with that — at least this early. If there’s a Season 12, we’ll do a musical. Right now, we kind of want to stick to what was working for us, but we’re still learning. It’s a process.

The Pitt season 2 will likely see a new or at least more developed relationship dynamic between Santos and Whitaker after months of living together, which Gemmill alluded to. However, Santos' story could also be the focus of a lot of emotion. It was Santos, after all, who outed Langdon's drug misuse, and his return to PTMC could certainly bring back some of the bad blood between them. Alternatively, Langdon may spend time trying to make amends with Santos, which should be just as interesting due to her prickly outer persona.

2 Dr. Melissa "Mel" King

Played By: Taylor Dearden

Dr. Melissa "Mel" King is one of the few characters who is confirmed to be in The Pitt season 2 who wasn't hinted by R. Scott Gemmill. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Taylor Dearden spoke about how the actors of The Pitt went through a medical training "boot camp" in preparation for filming and confirmed that the same will be done for season 2.

No, we start [season 2] bootcamp June 1. We know literally nothing, which is making me very, very anxious... I heard season two bootcamp is only one week.

Dearden's comments also subtly confirmed that filming for The Pitt season 2 will begin sometime around June 2025, which fits with Noah Wyle's comments about The Pitt season 2's release window. Mel's story in The Pitt season 2 will likely see her taking on even more responsibilities at PTMC as a more advanced resident. Mel may even get a chance to start advising other doctors on how to treat patients with autism, an issue she highlighted in season 1. There's also a good chance that more of her relationship with her sister, Becca (Tal Anderson) will be revealed through phone calls or comments.

1 Dr. Parker Ellis

Played By: Ayesha Harris

One of the more surprising early confirmations of a returning doctor is Dr. Parker Ellis (Ayesha Harris). Ellis was one of the night shift residents who came in to help with the PittFest shooting, but as Gemmill explained to TVLine, her relationship with Dr. Santos means she'll be making another appearance.

Santos responds well to Ellis, and Ellis is a real no bulls—t [character], so she’s a good mentor for Santos, that’s for sure.

Ellis acted as something of a teacher and mentor to Dr. Santos at the end of The Pitt season 1, and it seems that season 2 will continue that trend. Whether that means Ellis is replacing Langdon as one of Robby's residents or Santos has been working more night shifts remains to be seen. Ellis is also one of the many characters who wasn't highlighted as much in The Pitt season 1, meaning season 2 should have plenty of creative license to flesh out her character more.

Once again, however, there are likely many other doctors who are returning to The Pitt season 2. People like Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) and Dr. Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) are already established parts of PTMC and have no reason to leave the hospital entirely, and could easily show up in the coming season. Likewise, as The Pitt season 2 draws closer, R. Scott Gemmill will likely be more open about the returning cast and his plans for the future story. While they may not be officially confirmed yet, there's a very good chance The Pitt season 2 will have plenty of familiar faces.
