Rob McElhenney recently confirmed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 17 will start premiering in June, which I'm very happy about, as it feels like forever since the last installment. I love the show, and I think the story, characters, and overall concept could allow it to carry on for a very long time. Realistically, though, it does have a lifespan, like any show. I can't imagine they would want to end the show without Danny DeVito, but at the same time, it must be very hard to plan for something like that.
