The Autobots in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts are sporting their G1 designs, yet Mirage is proving to be an exception to that approach. Mirage, who made his live-action debut in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, is among the Autobots and Maximals ing the fight against the Terrorcons in the movie. Given that the movie takes place in the 1990s, many of the Robots in Disguise featured in the story will differ from previous versions.

With G1 designs being so prominent in the new film, the look chosen for Rise of the Beasts’ Mirage stands out. In G1, Mirage is a Ligier JS11 Formula 1 race car, but the new film opted for a different vehicle altogether. In the Rise of the Beasts trailer, Mirage transforms from a silver Porsche 964 with a blue stripe down the middle. Looking at how the movie is incorporating the G1 looks of Autobots like Optimus Prime, it’s interesting that Rise of the Beasts is ignoring the Formula 1 version of Mirage. One possible explanation for that is that the Formula 1 isn’t conspicuous enough. As a race car, it can’t for a normal vehicle on the road like a Porsche can.

Has Mirage As A Porsche Replaced Jazz In Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts?

Part of what draws attention to the design choice for Mirage is that the Transformers movies already have an Autobot that turns into a Porsche – Jazz. Jazz is one of the principal characters in the original Transformers movie who acts as the right-hand of Optimus Prime in the cartoons. Since it’s unlikely that the movie would use the same car as the disguise for two different Autobots, chances are Jazz won’t be in the movie in any capacity. In fact, it’s possible that Mirage is taking Jazz’s place in the Transformers story.

How Mirage Fits Into Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts' Story

Mirage's illusion in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Based on how much the trailer lingers on Mirage, its abilities, and its transformation, the classic Autobot has good odds of being an important part of the movie and the fight with Rise of the Beasts. By being able to create illusions and turn invisible, Mirage certainly brings a lot to the table when it comes to the action and could be an asset when the time comes for Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal, and the others to face off against Rise of the Beast’s villains.

From the looks of things, Mirage will fit into the human story as well. Noah (Anthony Ramos), the movie’s male lead, was seen driving the Porsche in the trailer. It may or not be a vehicle he purchased, unaware of its true nature. Regardless of how he ended up in the car, it appeared to take over the steering and force him into a police chase. Similar to how Bumblebee was Sam Witwicky’s window into the world of the Autobots and the Decepticons in 2007’s Transformers, Mirage can be what drags Noah and some of the other human characters into the battle with the Terrorcons in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
