One of the oldest and most controversial X-Men, Beast has had many incarnations of his physicality, with there even being a difference between his appearance in  X-Men: Days of Future Past.

But his personality has remained fully intact, and it's not always the most productive one on the team. Henry "Hank" McCoy wasn't the most humble or pleasant presence before getting turned into a six-foot-tall blue cat. However, he only got more arrogant and condescending afterward, and, depending on the series being read, he can even be outright insufferable, at least as far as Redditors are concerned.

Current Beast Is Best

Mindravage wrote an opinion that would be very unpopular on several X-threads: "The current Beast (Dark Beast-ish) in X-Force is the best Beast."

Dark Beast is the alternate universe's sinister, cruel variation of the X-Men's ive and diplomatic version, as seen in X-Men: The Last Stand. Pitch black from head to toe with piercing red eyes, he's an intimidating figure destined to make an appearance in the MCU. And, considering how the current comics' Beast is well on his way to being sinister and cruel himself, that arc could be utilized in a film. But most Redditors still aren't fond of the current incarnation, and certainly wouldn't call him their favorite.

Cat-Faced Beast Wasn't So Bad

Beast has taken the form of several animals throughout his time as a mutant, including that of the feline. Most side with either ambivalence or dismissal when it comes to this incarnation, but it also apparently has a few fans like attackonyourmom, who stated that they "like kitty cat Beast more than ape Beast."

Besides perhaps First Class, the closest Beast has come to this appearance in the movies was probably also in X-Men: The Last Stand, an installment notable for how many mutants' arcs it failed. But even in that, the filmmakers didn't go so far as to make Beast look like a cat, which serves to diminish his level of intimidation.

New X-Men's Beast Wasn't So Bad

The critically-lauded '90s television series featured a version of Beast more akin to an extremely burly blue wolf, and most Redditors found the appearance ridiculous. However, EverySpiegel wrote that they "really loved Morrison's Beast."

Many Redditors would stringently disagree, like DueCharacter5, who wrote that "Morrison ruined Beast, and nobody has been able to handle him since." Craig1818 agreed, writing that "Pre-Morrison Beast is a totally different character" and one that they "actually like." However, when it comes to the modern take on the character, the latter Redditor state's they "regularly wish he would be killed off."

It's Okay That He's A Jerk Now

Beast has become somewhat of a condescending nuisance since starting with the X-Men, and this rubs most, but apparently not all, people the wrong way. this side of X-Men's Gambit, but they too would be in the minority. Most want their heroes to just be heroic.

However, Redditors like doubledeadghost have been finding the character distasteful, writing that he's become "such an a**" and they feel that either the character "needs to be reprimanded for his actions or 2. He needs to be more appealing to the reader."

Beast Is Evil To His Core

One Redditor, davytex14, believes that Beast is "evil to his core." This opinion holds more downvotes than upvotes, and opinions like those held by FlayedMan345 shed light on why.

In FlayedMan345's words: "I love Beast. Probably my favorite X-Man as I've grown older because he is so fallible and prideful and constantly making bad choices." Essentially, the latter Redditor sees the character as far more complex than simply evil, and that complexity has made the character compelling for decades. They elaborated with, "His descent has been fascinating but I also love when he is a lovable, erudite, bouncing off the walls."

Beast Has Outstayed His Welcome

Like X-Men's Phoenix/Jean Grey, Beast has been with the property since just about the beginning. And, like the Phoenix, Beast's fame and history aren't enough to keep him from an unpopular opinion or two in regards to his continuing to be a part of the franchise's history. Apparently, some Redditors aren't fond of redemption.

Overall, Beast is far from Redditors' favorite member of the X-Men, but one went so far as to say he should be removed from the lineup altogether. Or, in harsher terminology, oranginag wrote: "Beast could be killed off permanently tomorrow and I wouldn't care." Beast can be a drain on his teammates, but his push-and-pull with Charles Xavier is part of what keeps the whole dynamic interesting.

Beast Is An Over-Righteous Hypocrite

Jengoxfate wrote that the blue, furry X-Man is an "over-righteous hypocrite who likes to judge whoever is currently making the hard choices but never wants to step up to take that responsibility himself."

SakmarEcho was even more specific: "I hate Beast, easily the worst X-Man." McCoy may not be the nicest individual at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, but the title for worst X-Man proudly belongs to Bailey Hoskins, AKA X-Ceptional, who has the power to detonate himself once and only once.
