2024 has been a phenomenal year for the PlayStation 5 as it has featured some of the console's best games yet. From sprawling JRPGs to action-packed soulslike adventures, there have been a plethora of truly stand-out releases on the PS5. Of course, it isn't without its faults, and there have been a handful of duds. However, for every Concord, the PS5 has had ten really terrific games that more than make up for it.
This is great news for PS5 fans who have perhaps been feeling like Sony has taken a little too long releasing compelling exclusives. While 2024 has sadly come to an end, there's a good chance a lot of people haven't had the time to check out PlayStation 5's best games of the year. So, including some of the best RPGs of 2024 and the best indies, here are the greatest PS5 games of 2024.
10 Stellar Blade (SHIFT UP Corporation)
A Stylish Action-Packed Adventure
Stellar Blade launched to critical acclaim towards the start of 2024, thanks to its blend of stylish cutscenes, frenetic combat, and a compelling narrative that perfectly sets up a potential sequel. Its gameplay loop saw players explore a plethora of diverse environments, some of which were more open than others, completing side quests, defeating optional bosses, and embarking on a quest to take down some truly horrifying monsters.

Stellar Blade’s Map Size Compared To Nier: Automata
Stellar Blade’s map builds on action RPGs like Nier: Automata, blending genre tropes to create a balanced whole. But how big is it in comparison?
While Stellar Blade never quite reached the heights of its most obvious influence, Nier Automata, it still managed to resonate with fans. It has gone on to receive a number of crossovers, including with the Nier series, as well as a handful of updates that improve the overall experience. For those who are yet to try it out, Stellar Blade lives up to its name as being a truly stellar experience.
9 Metaphor: ReFantazio (Atlus)
A New Era For Atlus
Metaphor: ReFantazio is the latest game from developer Atlus and is a brand-new IP that deviates somewhat from its Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series. Rather than following a group of high school students, Metaphor: ReFantazio is set in a gorgeously detailed fantasy kingdom full of unique races and political intrigue. It is certainly a departure for Atlus, but one that proved to be incredibly beneficial.
Metaphor: ReFantazio succeeds where Persona failed by removing the worst parts from that series and refining what it has been getting right for so long. With stylish menus, fantastic turn-based combat, and a plot so full of twists and turns it remains consistently compelling throughout, JRPG fans and those who are new to the genre are sure to find a lot to love in one of the greatest PS5 games of 2024, Metaphor: ReFantazio.
8 Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (Saber Interactive)
A Gory & Explosive Shooter
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 took everyone by surprise when it launched in 2024, in large part because it made people realize how much they wanted a back-to-basics experience. Space Marine 2 managed to encapsulate everything that made 2010s single-player shooters so great and redefined it for a modern audience. With striking visuals, an action-packed and spectacular narrative, and great respect for the source material, Space Marine 2 set the bar rather high for future triple-A releases.
It is also one of the more generous PS5 launches of 2024, as it offers a full single-player campaign, a constantly expanding co-op mode, and a multiplayer mode, all of which have been updated with new content, missions, and maps in free updates. Outside some paid cosmetics, players have absolutely no reason to spend extra money on any of Space Marine 2's content. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 absolutely deserves to be at the top of all PlayStation fans' backlogs.
7 Neva (Nómada Studio)
A Gorgeous Heartfelt Indie
Neva is the latest title from developer Nomada Studio, which is best known for the heartfelt indie game, GRIS. Much like GRIS, Neva is an emotional and gorgeously animated adventure that follows Alba as she attempts to navigate through a crumbling world filled with monsters. She's ed by a wolf cub that slowly grows throughout the game and builds a bond with her.
Neva is as beautiful to look at as it is fun to play thanks to the inclusion of more gamified elements, such as combat and platforming. However, none of that strips away Nomada Studio's knack for deeply compelling storytelling and artistry. Neva remains as complex as GRIS was in its themes and exploration of them and is easily one of the best indie games on PlayStation 5 in 2024.
6 Silent Hill 2 (Bloober Team)
A Horror Remake For The Ages
Silent Hill 2's remake surprised everyone when it was released to shockingly positive reviews. Absolutely no one expected it to do well after a handful of initial trailers failed to show off just how amazing of a remake it actually was. Luckily, word of mouth and those aforementioned positive reviews managed to get people back on board and saw it skyrocket in the charts, quickly becoming one of the best PS5 games of the year.
Silent Hill 2 by Bloober Team expanded upon the original experience while retaining everything that made it so great in the first place. From improved voice acting and overall scripting to a much more oppressive and haunting atmosphere thanks to the enhanced visuals, Silent Hill 2 (2024) is a masterclass in horror game design and successfully remaking something. All PlayStation 5 horror fans should try Silent Hill 2 as soon as possible.
5 Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio)
The Biggest Like A Dragon Game Ever
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the culmination of everything Yakuza and Like a Dragon, bringing together all the series' most iconic characters for what often feels like a final hurrah. It's a sprawling, jam-packed adventure full of quirky side quests, game-sized minigames, and heartfelt character moments that embody everything that makes these games so beloved in the first place.

Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Preview: Like a Dragon's Latest Entry Is A Bizarre Blast
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is absolutely wild in all the best ways and looks to be one of RGG Studio's best Yakuza games yet.
Infinite Wealth is truly rich in content, laughs, and tearful moments, which undoubtedly earns it a spot as one of the best PS5 games of 2024. Of course, those who haven't played any of the other Yakuza or Like a Dragon games may struggle to see what makes it truly shine, but even they will be able to appreciate just how staggeringly detailed its open-world locations are.
4 Helldivers 2 (Arrowhead Game Studios)
The Best Live Service Game Of 2024
Helldivers 2 has managed to cement itself as one of the best, if not the best, live-service games of all time. It's a multiplayer game that took the world by storm when it launched, offering a thoroughly challenging yet endlessly engaging gameplay loop that sees players constantly coming back for more, even months down the line. After receiving a number of updates introducing new weapons, stratagems, and more, Helldivers 2 has quickly become a must-play PS5 game.
What made it so great was its fair battle model, its easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master combat, and the power fantasy that it offers, one that sees players just about managing to complete a mission despite all the odds being stacked against them. Helldivers 2 was likely a surprise hit for many, but it proved that, while PlayStation has had a few missteps in the field of live-service games, it knows how to make the best of them.
3 Dragon's Dogma 2 (Capcom)
A Sprawling Immersive RPG
Dragon's Dogma 2 may be just one of many amazing RPGs that launched for the PS5 in 2024, but it is easily the most immersive of the bunch. Its striking open world is full of emergent gameplay moments that quickly become memorable stories players will be eager to share with friends. Whether it's a griffon destroying a cart mid-journey or a cyclops rampaging around a city like it's in Attack on Titan, these stories are ultimately what made Dragon's Dogma 2 so great.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is also just an incredible sequel, offering returning fans an expanded version of the original game with all the features that never managed to make the final cut and newcomers a completely standalone adventure to embark upon. Unlike many open-world games that have come before it, Dragon's Dogma 2 managed to push the genre to new heights and offered players something truly new and exceptional.
2 Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (Square Enix)
A Truly Transformative Sequel
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth took everything that made Remake so great, from its character moments to its expanded lore, and added so much extra content. It is a truly packed adventure, one that features a plethora of engaging minigames, optional content, bosses to beat, and a storyline so deeply compelling that fans and newcomers alike are likely to come out crying by the end.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth easily stands as one of the greatest PS5 games of 2024 and one of the greatest games on the console in general. It's a remarkable achievement, one made even better by its PS5 Pro enhancements, that everyone should give a try. While it is worth playing Remake first in order to truly appreciate the story, Rebirth's story can be enjoyed as a standalone experience.
1 Astro Bot (Team Asobi)
The GOTY Winner
Astro Bot is by far the best PS5 game of 2024 not simply because it won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, but also because it is a truly joyful experience made by a ionate team of developers that imbued it with so much playfulness. It is a celebration of everything PlayStation, one that not only showcases the platform's biggest and most recognizable franchises but also those seemingly forgotten to time.

Astro Bot Review: A Charming Platformer With Surprises, Excitement & Nostalgia
While PlayStation often delivers narrative-focused action games, Astro Bot proves it can still create an exciting & charming platformer as well.
Astro Bot is a brilliantly creative game that continuously goes above and beyond with every level ensuring that, no matter what the player is doing, whether they're simply running around, jumping, or punching bad guys, they're having a great time. It is hard not to love Astro Bot throughout its entire runtime, and for that reason, it takes the top spot as the best PlayStation 5 game of 2024.
