At the end of Kaiju No. 8 Episode 2, after Kafka and Reno arrive to attend the test, fans are introduced to another intriguing character, Shinomiya Kikoru. The prodigious newcomer boldly refers to Kafka as an old man and demands him to move his car. While Kafka is annoyed at being referred to as an old man, he becomes even more irritated when he learns that Shinomiya's reason for demanding he move his car is that he has parked it in her lucky number parking spot.

Shinomiya's unreasonable demands clearly infuriate Kafka and when he refuses to comply, Kikoru showcases her impressive strength by single-handedly tossing Kafka's car aside. Kafka's loud and valid reaction stems from his concern, as the car is rented from the company. In a heated moment, Kafka slyly uses his Kaiju powers to move and reposition the vehicle adequately hilariously surprising Kikoru. However, he later receives a scolding from Reno for using his powers inappropriately.

Kafka's funniest trait is his unintentional humor and tendency to do the most inappropriate things in delicate situations. One such moment occurs during the ceremony for becoming a Defense Force officer. Ashiro Mina, the captain of the Third Division's speech motivates Kafka to recall his dream of being by her side, which, as a result, sees Kafka yelling out her name in the promise of being by her side, in front of everyone.

The vice-captain of the Third Division can't stop laughing after hearing Kafka's bold promise in front of everyone, while the other are stunned by his unpredictability. As punishment, Ashiro Mina orders Kafka to do a hundred push-ups, which he immediately begins. The other cheer him on as he nears the hundredth push-up, impressed by his determination and effort.

Immediately after Kafka completes his hundred push-ups as a punishment for calling out the captain of the Third Division by her name, Shinomiya asks to speak with him privately. This request hilariously prompts speculation among the other about whether she might be confessing her love. During their private meeting, Shinomiya reveals to Kafka that if the Defense Force discovers his secret, he will be kept in the lab for testing and ultimately transformed into a weapon.

During this scene, Iharu is comparing his muscles with Reno. Trying to fit in, Kafka starts flexing his muscles for the others, but eventually struggles to hold his breath and hide his stout belly, prompting other to make fun of him.

While Kafka tries to justify his body structure by attributing it to his age, Aoi Kaguragi enters the room with his perfect physique, causing the other to feel self-conscious. Later, as the boys discuss their determination to become Defense Officers inspired by Ashiro Mina, they are surprised to learn that Mina and Kafka are childhood friends. The boys insist that Kafka share everything he knows about Mina, leading to a humorous outcome where everyone ends up ing out from staying in the hot water for too long.

Episode 8, "Welcome to the Defense Force"

Kaiju No. 8 Episode 8 sees the recovery of the Third Division after their first official mission. When Reno wakes up in the hospital, he immediately thanks Kafka for saving him and Ihara from Kaiju No. 9, not realizing Ihara is also present in the room. Ihara startles Reno by questioning why he is thanking Kafka when it was Kaiju No. 8 who saved them. However, thanks to Shinomiya's quick thinking, they explain to Ihara that Reno is thanking Kafka for finding Kaiju's core.

Whereas, when Ihara starts to boast about Kaiju No. 8 and its incredible powers, Kafka starts to feel embarrassed and proud of these praises, prompting Ihara to ask why Kafka is blushing. Shinomiya pops in again while hitting Kafka and remarking that his face always looks dumb, to which Ihara agrees. Reno then exclaims that they're relieved it's Ihara, as other might have caught on to Kafka's secret.

Before becoming a full-fledged Defense Officer, the participants had to go through various tests, in which the last test involved neutralizing the Kaiju in combat. To aid the participant's hold against the monster, each participant is provided with a special Kaiju battle suit designed to enhance their physical abilities. The suit's effectiveness varies for each participant, drawing out and amplifying their overall strength.

While Shinomiya draws out an impressive 46% of the suit's power and everyone else performs well, Vice-Captain Hoshina notes that achieving anything above 0% is enough to , and he has never seen anyone score 0%. In a comical twist, Kafka unexpectedly draws 0% of the suit's power. Embarrassed, Kafka strains to activate his battle powers to no avail, prompting Hoshina to humorously remark that Kafka looks like he's trying to poop.

Episode 6, "Sagahmihara Neutralization Operation At Daybreak"

The first official mission for the Third Division comes unannounced at daybreak, catching the inexperienced off guard. However, when the other leap off the building and dive into the battlefield, Kafka is seen carefully crawling down the building, humorously contradicting his earlier determination.
