On-screen dates are some of the best scenes in sitcoms, especially in the 1990s. Full House had its first-run TGIF viewers hooked, and the world has watched the show in syndication ever since. For a show that ran for eight seasons, there's a lot of potential for a hot date. Three single father figures are out looking for love. Even two of their little girls are dating by the time the series is ending.
Some say that dating was more intentional back in the 90s, but characters on Full House still had some pretty bad dates. Here are ten of those, ranked from least to most cringy.
Happy New Year
All in all, the show's least cringy date is the fourth season's "Happy New Year" episode. Danny and Jesse sign Joey up for a video dating service, and it actually works. He meets a beautiful woman named Christine. They are so compatible and wind up staying out together all night. They even talk about getting engaged but decide that it's too soon. The only bad part about the date is that we never see Christine again.
On the Road Again
This season eight episode explores DJ's relationship with Viper, a member of Uncle Jesse's band. Danny dislikes Viper's look and the age difference between Viper and DJ. DJ decides to defy her dad and goes away on tour with the Monkey Puppets. Danny crashes the fun when he realizes that DJ is gone, and the father and daughter have a serious talk about her dating life. Awkward, but it could be worse.
Claire and Present Danger
It's easy to forget the arc in Full House where Danny dates Gia's mom, Claire. Gia comes along in the seventh season. She is first Stephanie's nemesis, but the two become fast friends. In season eight, Danny is interested in Gia's mom, Claire. Stephanie and Gia are totally on board and think it would be amazing to become stepsisters. That means that it's Michelle's turn to worry about her dad dating. She feels left out around Gia and Stephanie, so she tries to disrupt Danny and Claire's date by dressing like a rebel and acting like a bad kid. This one was a little odd, but Danny addresses the issue with Stephanie, who apologizes and makes things right with Michelle.
Danny's Very First Date
In the first season, Danny has to make a lot of adjustments. His wife has recently ed away, but he eventually wants to start dating again. He tries to do this with Stephanie's troop leader, Linda, but he keeps chickening out.
It turns out that DJ is really struggling with this change, too. Danny and Linda finally make it to their date, but the back-and-forth that gets them there is agony.
No More Mr. Dumb Guy
Jesse and Becky have a pretty sad party date in the third season. Jesse doesn't want to go to a Festival of Cultural Arts with Becky until he gets a preview of her attractive college English professor. He gets jealous, changes his mind, and agrees to go, but not before he pads his vocabulary and studies up on classic literature. Jesse makes a fool of himself at the soiree by trying to act more intellectual. Because he embarrasses himself and Becky, this date is a flop. He later stands outside Becky's apartment serenading her, and they're able to work things out.
Sisters in Crime
In Steve's first appearance on Full House, he is actually Steve Peters, not Steve Hale. He and DJ want to go out, but she's supposed to stay home and babysit her sisters. In one of her more rebellious moments, DJ decides to break the rules and go on the date, with her sisters in tow. Steve takes DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle out to the movies. DJ and Steve just want to kiss the whole time, and Stephanie and Michelle are so mischievous (and DJ is so negligent) that they get the whole group into some trouble at the movie theater. Not a great first date.
Bachelor of the Month
Danny is a dating machine in season five. He is the Bay Area's "Bachelor of the Month," so he's going out with a different lady every night. This puts two things in motion: Michelle is tired of her dad not being home at night, and Vicky is tired of hearing her co-host talk about his dates. Vicky thinks Danny is shallow, so he attempts to prove her wrong by taking her out.
Michelle and Teddy hide in the car and go on that date with them! The date is a little awkward to begin with, but Danny seeing his youngest kid and her best friend in the middle of the date kind of makes this one a wash. At least Danny and Vicky kiss at the end.
Just Say No Way
If the title isn't enough of a signal, this episode deals with teenagers drinking. DJ has worked so hard to plan a school dance, and she has secured Kevin (with whom she shared a thirteenth-birthday kiss) as her date. Everything goes wrong when the band doesn't show. Uncle Jesse uses his musical talents to try to save the day. Meanwhile, DJ finds Kevin and his friends in the hallway drinking beer. She is so angry, takes one of their beers, and lectures them. Jesse walks into the hall right after she's grabbed the beer, so he thinks she has been drinking. Even though she clears her name, DJ has to deal with her date making a crappy decision and her authority figures not believing her.
All Stood Up
Stephanie's date to the dance in season eight is pretty bad. She's got a cute guy named Ryan set to go with her, but he stands her up! Poor Stephanie spends hours sitting on the couch in her pretty dress waiting for this boy. Danny tells Ryan off and gets him to ask Stephanie out again, but that only makes her mad. She gets revenge by giving Ryan a taste of his own medicine. When they are supposed to meet at the mall for pizza, Stephanie never shows. Both dates are horrible because each one bails on the other, but they make up at the end and try again.
Five's a Crowd
This season five episode is hilarious for viewers, but it's awful for DJ. She has a hot date with Pete, the lead singer of "The Funky Tongues," a metal band that uses her Uncle Jesse's recording equipment. After DJ tells Danny about Pete's reputation and his giant van, Danny freaks out. He, Jesse, and Joey go to rescue DJ from her date at the drive-in movie. This one takes the cake as the most embarrassing date, for sure.
