While everyone might have been stuck at home this year due to the pandemic, their televisions transported them to space stations, New York, and even the afterlife.

With well over a hundred new shows released, it was hard to narrow down the best but IMDb made the job easier. 2020 may have been hellish, but at least television kick-started the decade in a positive way.

Space Force - 6.8

Steve Carell returned to his television roots this year playing General Mark R. Naird, the United States' first-ever Space Force Chief of Space Operations in the Netflix original Space Force. Not even Carell can run an entire Space Force by himself and so he gets help from an all-star cast that includes John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, and Lisa Kudrow.

The workplace sitcom revolves around a group of scientists, politicians, and military professionals who have been tasked with establishing the United States Space Force. While the show is funny, it gets an added boost of comedy given the fact that the US is actually creating a Space Force in real life.

Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens - 7.0

Awkwafina, who astounded audiences with her performance in The Farewell, has been gracing big and small screens for some time now but the comedian landed her own show this year when Awkwafina is Nora From Queens debut on Comedy Central in January.

The series stars Awkwafina as Nora, a fictionalized version of herself, who is trying to live her best life in Flushings, New York. She's not in it alone though and often gets advice from her grandmother (Lori Tan Chinn). The series has been renewed for a second season that will hopefully release in 2021.

Truth Seekers - 7.1

Television audiences have always been interested in the paranormal and yet there have been very few shows that center around the paranormal in a humorous way. Truth Seekers is here and ready to fill that void.

The Amazon Prime Video British series centers on a group of paranormal investigators who are in a bit over their head when they set out to film ghost encounters but end discovering a conspiracy that could wipe out the human race.

Love Life - 7.5

HBO Max entered the streaming game this year and with it came the premiere of the comedy anthology seriesAnna Kendrick), a young woman who is just trying to live her best life while also trying to find Mr. Right.

In Love Life, each episode of the ten-part season follows Darby through a different relationship as the show follows her through her 20s and 30s. Full of comedic moments, the romantic comedy was the perfect light-hearted show needed to get through 2020.

There have been Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet brings workplace comedies into the new decade by centering its narrative in a video game studio.

The Apple TV+ series follows an eccentric group of video game designers who are trying to launch a major expansion to a popular MMORPG game called Mythic Quest. Like all workplace comedies, this group of experts finds themselves in all kinds of unusual situations.

Animaniacs (2020) - 7.9

People who grew up in the 1990s probably have fond memories of watching Animaniacs and this year saw the revival of the popular '90s animated series. Not only was the series revived but the original voice cast of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot also returned to the series.

Animaniacs premiered on Hulu in November and has already been renewed for a second season. The revival follows the same formula as the original and follows the Warner siblings as they get into all kinds of trouble weaving humor and pop culture references into every episode.

Never Have I Ever - 7.9

Television Never Have I Ever dropped in April 2020 and has fans eagerly awaiting the second season.

The series centers on 15-year-old Devi Vishwakumar, a young girl who has had the worst year of her life. Determined to turn things around for herself, Devi sets out to become popular by trying to date the most popular boy in school while also dealing with family, friends, and academic rival drama.

The series star Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, an American football coach who has been recruited to coach an English Premier League team -- aka a soccer team. Full of comedy and a whole lot of heart, Ted Lasso became one of the best comedy and feel-good shows of 2020.
