Set up as a rescue mission, Red One sees Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and more team up to save a kidnapped Santa Claus (J. K. Simmons). critical reviews of Red One have been negative. However, an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes shows there's enough humor, adventure, and interesting characters in Red One that make it worth the watch — even if it's a little cheesy.

Based on Carys Bexington's book of the same name, The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland is an entertaining mashup of two classic stories. The animated film sees St. Nick (Gerard Butler) teaming up with Alice in Wonderland's eponymous character (Simone Ashley) to show the Queen of Hearts (Emilia Clarke) the magic of Christmas after she's banned the holiday in Wonderland. The film is a touching adventure tale filled with delightful humor, music, and a charming animation style that brings Bexington's book to life.

8 An Almost Christmas Story (Disney+)

Directed by David Lowery and produced by Alfonso Cuarón, An Almost Christmas Story is an endearing short film inspired by real-life events — the 2020 news story about an owl being rescued from the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. In the animated short film, a young owl named Moon escapes from the Rockefeller tree and crosses paths with a lost girl named Luna. Together, they navigate the big city that looks as though it was hand-crafted with love and attention to detail.

Christmas love stories sometimes form in the most unusual ways. This year, The Merry Gentlemen has a truly unique start to a sweet holiday romance. In the film, Britt Robertson's character Ashley puts together a Christmas-themed show with strictly male performers to save her parents' venue. One of the performers is played by Chad Michael Murray, and it's not long before sparks fly between the two. The Merry Gentlemen has an edgier premise compared to most holiday films, but still follows a beloved formula.

After multiple years of Tenacious D references to the Devil, Jack Black is finally playing the infamous figure in Dear Santa. The comedy film follows a young boy, Liam (Robert Timothy Smith), who, thanks to a spelling error, accidentally pens a wish list to Satan instead of Santa. Black is wild and undeniably fit for the role. After their first encounter, hilarious thrills ensue as Liam gets to make his wildest dreams come true — only if Satan is able to steal his soul.

5 Our Little Secret (Netflix)

After Falling for Christmas in 2022, referenced in Netflix's Hot Frosty starring Lacey Chabert, Lindsay Lohan returns to the streaming service for another Christmas film. This time, Our Little Secret sees Lohan's character reuniting with her ex-boyfriend (Ian Harding) after they discover their current partners are related. The awkward realization is played out humorously, and it's entertaining to see the two do everything to keep their past hidden from others. Tim Meadows, Judy Reyes, Chris Parnell, and Kristin Chenoweth appear in ing roles.

4 Nutcrackers (Hulu)

Nutcrackers is a classic story of a businessman (Ben Stiller) whose work-obsessed, hardened exterior begins to melt after spending time with his family. In the film, Stiller's Mike is in charge of looking after his nephews following the death of their mother (his sister). Because of this, Nutcrackers isn't exactly the cheery and exciting Christmas movie most audiences seek out this time of year. However, the real-life brothers who portray Mike's nephews are rambunctious and add enough light to the sentimental holiday film.

3 Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story (Hallmark Channel)

No holiday season is complete without a lighthearted Hallmark film, and one of the more interesting movies from this year's lineup comes from a partnership with the NFL. Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story is a romantic comedy that centers around the unexpected love story between a Kansas City Chiefs superfan (Hunter King) and the team's director of fan engagement (Tyler Hynes). Donna Kelce, the mother of Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce, makes a brief cameo in the film as well as the manager of a restaurant.

2 That Christmas (Netflix)

From famous Love Actually writer and director Richard Curtis comes That Christmas. The animated fantasy film is based on a series of kids' books written by Curtis. That Christmas follows the adventures of various families during the titular holiday, with Saint Nick (Brian Cox) himself making an appearance. Jodie Whittaker, Bill Nighy, and Fiona Shaw are a few other actors filling out the cast. That Christmas has a sweet animation style and is plenty of fun with heartfelt messages that are applicable all year round.

1 Carry-On (Netflix)

Carry-On is an unusual Christmas movie, taking place during the holiday season, but the typical celebratory festivities are not the focus. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed the Liam Neeson thrillers Unknown and Non-Stop, Carry-On follows Taron Egerton as a TSA agent who gets blackmailed by an eerie traveler (Jason Bateman) to place a dangerous package on a flight. Collet-Serra is also behind the horror film Orphan, and while Carry-On doesn't fall in the horror genre, its built-up suspense will still get hearts racing.
