Is For All Mankind A Secret Star Trek Origin Story?
Many Star Trek fans think For All Mankind is setting up Starfleet
Because of For All Mankind's Star Trek pedigree with legendary creators like Ronald D. Moore, and Michael and Denise Okuda, and the Apple TV+ series' optimistic vision of space travel, many Star Trek fans think For All Mankind is really an Star Trek itself. Like Star Trek, For All Mankind begins in the late 1960s, and as the show jumps ahead about a decade each season, Humanity moves farther and farther into our solar system, beginning with colonizing the moon and then Mars. Trekkies speculate it won't be long before For All Mankind's has bona fide starships and warp drive.
Aliens do not exist (so far) in For All Mankind.
Of course, countless aspects of For All Mankind's alternate reality differ and contradict the established canonical history of Star Trek. For All Mankind is telling its own story, albeit with some similarities to Gene Roddenberry's hopeful vision. But For All Mankind's characters are very human and decidedly flawed, while the space race between NASA, the Soviet Union, and the private conglomerate Helios Aerospace is quite different from the united Earth in Star Trek. Just as Star Trek shines a light on humanity, For All Mankind does so in different but equally thoughtful and exciting ways.
