A 7th Heaven reboot is reportedly in the works at CBS Studios. Created and produced by Brenda Hampton, the original family drama series debuted in 1996 and ran for 11 seasons. Revolving around Reverend Eric Camden (Stephen Collins) and his large family, the series, produced by Aaron Spelling, the core cast consists of Collins, Catherine Hicks, Barry Watson, David Gallagher, Jessica Biel, and more.

According to Variety, CBS Studios is planning on rebooting 7th Heaven, with the project currently in early development. Focusing on a new diverse family, Anthony Sparks will run the series and executive produce alongside original star, now executive producer, Jessica Biel, and DeVon Franklin. As deals are still being worked out with a brand-new cast, currently, there's no network or streamer attached to the project.

In the original series, Biel played the eldest daughter in the Camden family of seven kids, was a series regular in the first six seasons, and guest-starred in the later seasons. She was an executive producer of Cruel Summer and The Sinners, with her most recent producing credit being Prime Video's thriller series The Better Sister, scheduled to arrive on May 29. Meanwhile, Fatal Destination, in which she executive produces and stars, is in pre-production.

7th Heaven is a popular drama with some juicy storylines, but some things about the series still don't make sense.

7th Heaven was a significant success for the WB network, responsible for launching the careers of several stars, including Biel. However, the series' legacy was tarnished when an audio tape of 7th Heaven star Stephen Collins itting to having engaged in sexual misconduct with minors surfaced in 2014. Back then, Hicks, who played Collins' on-screen wife, talked about a 7th Heaven reunion being unlikely.

No One Asked For A Reboot, But It May Be Perfect Timing

It may be for the best that the rumored reboot series won't feature any original cast. A revival featuring a brand-new cast and a diverse family sounds like the modern update the hit series needed. Similar shows that focus on family and involve a large ensemble cast have received different levels of success in the past. With long-running shows like Modern Family having ended their run, there's a window for a new family-oriented series.

7th Heaven needs a hard reboot in many respects, without losing what made it unique and beloved in the first place. With the original star, Biel, who has become a very experienced producer over the years, the project is in good hands. While nothing is set in stone yet, hopefully, more information about the show's development will be announced soon.
