Over a number of social media posts, Yara itted she was very scared and worried about her loved ones and the state of her home country amid the invasion. Sharing a photo of herself in her native capital city Kyiv, Yara urged her followers, "I want to ask y’all , let's pray for Ukraine please it’s so important now." Yara has now taken her for Ukraine beyond social media to appear on a national news outlet to offer an update on her family.
Yara appeared on a Yara said her family and friends are terrified and unable to sleep over the fear they will lose their lives. "Nobody was prepared for this," she said of the Russian bombings on Kyiv. According to Yara, many of her friends tried to flee the capital city but mile-long lines for trains stopped them from leaving.
When asked if Yara's family could come live with her and Jovi amid the burgeoning war, Yara shared a heartbreaking update. "My parents cannot come here," she said. "Honestly, it's just impossible right now." The young mom shared that her mother was planning to come to the U.S., but the embassies closed before she was able to. Yara said that while her mother is safe, she is scared for her nephew, who will likely be forced to fight in the Ukrainian army. "He's just a child," Yara said.
