It's a sad day for 9-1-1 fans — created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, serves as a spinoff to 9-1-1 and debuted in January 2020 (which was not exactly the best time for a new show to premiere). Nevertheless, 9-1-1: Lone Star benefited from the success of its predecessor. But with 9-1-1 gone from Fox, the network has also chosen to part ways with the spinoff.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 will contain 12 episodes and premiere on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 8 pm ET on Fox.

Even though 9-1-1 moved to ABC for its seventh season. Meanwhile, Fox renewed 9-1-1: Lone Star for a fifth season, which will finally premiere in September 2024 and will be the show's last set of episodes.

Many speculated that 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 would be the TV show's last months before its scheduled debut. Rumors ran rampant that the series was knocking on death's door as original 9-1-1: Lone Star cast member Sierra McClain announced she wouldn't return in season 5. Plus, several other stars (like Rob Lowe) hinted that season 6 was looking bleak as they were previously made to believe season 5 would be the last one.

So, the 9-1-1 spinoff's cancelation doesn't come as a surprise. Financial reasons are more than likely to blame for Fox's decision to end the procedural drama. 9-1-1: Lone Star has a hefty budget, and with the ever-changing state of network TV's economics, Fox couldn't justify continuing to spend and lose money on the show. However, despite the unfortunate fate of 9-1-1: Lone Star, there is some good news for fans of the 9-1-1 universe. ABC is reportedly contemplating ordering another spinoff in a different city (like Las Vegas). Nothing is official, though.

How 9-1-1: Lone Star Should End

The other good news is that the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 cast and crew seemingly knew it would be the show's last. So, they had time to craft a perfect ending for the characters. Judd Ryder will leave Station 126 and close out his story, while the team must find his replacement.

9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 should be a thrilling ride with many action-packed emergencies.

The writers will also need to present a believable and acceptable exit for Grace Ryder (hopefully, avoiding killing her off). Finally, Carlos Reyes will avenge, and hopefully get closure from, his father's death. Whatever the case, 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 should be a thrilling ride with many action-packed emergencies.
