9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 has introduced many new storylines, but with only two episodes left in the series to wrap everything up, something drastic will have to happen to bring full closure. While Owen was speculated to be one of the best characters to 9-1-1 after 9-1-1: Lone Star ends, season 5 gave him the option to go back to New York and rally morale as Fire Chief. Yet, based on the promo for 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 11, Owen might not get the chance to leave Texas at all.

The Trailer Makes His Last Line Feel Like Final Words
9-1-1: Lone Star has been upfront about its impending asteroid threat since its midseason finale aired in late 2024. Although 9-1-1: Lone Star has had intense rescues in the past, none have been so severe as to threaten the entire state of Texas, let alone the whole world. In a newly-released trailer, Owen gives the team a rousing speech before the asteroid, vowing “There’s no group I’d rather be with at a time like this… 126 forever.” This may seem like a typical ending monologue, but when paired with the catastrophic event, Owen’s lines imply an death.
Showrunner Rashad Raisani confirmed the final disaster will not be without consequences. In an interview, Raisani went so far as to compare the asteroid to the pilot episode accident that left Judson “Judd” Ryder (Jim Parrack) as the lone survivor. Though 9-1-1: Lone Star will likely not kill off its entire crew, some will surely be wounded and others may be fatalities. Regarding who may or may not die in the final episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star, Raisani explained that “the worst circumstances of life will bring out the best in people.”

Rob Lowe led the 9-1-1: Lone Star pilot cast, but the final season would be wise to let Owen Strand go with the procedural. In many ways, Owen has been the one connecting the ensemble cast and bridging storylines. Now that the spinoff is coming to an end (and another is taking its place), Owen dying would be the most fitting way to end 9-1-1: Lone Star permanently. Without him, the of the 126 are free to go their separate ways or find new, more meaningful opportunities to connect.

Even Owen’s unresolved season 5 arcs would benefit from his death. Owen can’t fix Judd’s alcoholism before the 9-1-1: Lone Star finale, but his death could impact his former lieutenant in a much more meaningful way and motivate him to commit to his sobriety. Even the characters who take his ing the hardest could use that pain to propel them forward into their next chapter. Rob Lowe has been the face of 9-1-1: Lone Star since the beginning, but Owen Strand’s death would be the best denouement the spinoff could ask for.
