After Lone Star suffered an early ending. With its significant budget, Fox decided that the show was no longer viable. It officially concluded on February 3, after a five-season run.
Though the show has reached its end, Lowe is still interested in a potential return, if the opportunity is presented to him. In an interview with People, Lowe explained that he still has immense respect for the show, its characters, and the first responders that inspired them. While he did not state if he would return, he did explicitly state that "you never know." Check out his quote below:
Listen, I never say never to anything, and it's a character that means a lot to me. I have such respect and iration for first responders, and it's an honor whenever I can bring their stories to the screen, so you never know.
What Lowe's Comments Mean For 9-1-1: Lone Star's Future
The Show Could Come Back Someday
Lowe's comments are an excellent sign for the future of the franchise. After all, a return would mean that Owen would have somewhere to go. He was deeply entrenched in the Austin Fire Department, but the 9-1-1: Lone Star ending saw him becoming New York City's Fire Chief. With such an important role, Owen could very well return in another show in the 9-1-1 universe. The original 9-1-1 takes place in Los Angeles, which would make it difficult for Owen to play a major role in the show. Still, he could appear in the event of a major fire.
9-1-1 season 9 is not yet confirmed.
Even if Owen does not appear in the sister show, he could appear in another spin-off. A potential 9-1-1: New York could see him leading a new division in the Big Apple. The cost would still be high, but ABC showed a willingness to adopt the franchise when it saved 9-1-1. It could also renew Lone Star for season 6. Fox may no longer be interested in the series, but that does not mean it cannot be saved by other networks.
Our Take On Lowe's 9-1-1: Lone Star Return
Lowe Has Immense Loyalty To The Series
Lowe's loyalty was never in doubt. Still, it is another level of loyalty to express his willingness to return so soon after the show ended. While it often delved into utterly ridiculous situations, including with the bizarre 9-1-1: Lone Star ending, it amassed a strong viewership and had potential for more. It would be fascinating to see if it can recreate its fantastical situations in a new setting. Lowe's willingness to return is a great sign that it is possible, so, hopefully, the show will be revived for another season.
