Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 11, "Impact."
After five seasons and 72 episodes, TV show created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear is a spinoff of 9-1-1 and follows a group of first responders from Station 126 in Austin, Texas. It premiered in January 2020, receiving good reviews and great ratings, resulting in all its renewals. Unfortunately, 9-1-1: Lone Star's viewership has been rapidly declining, and the show has become too expensive for Fox to produce.
The 9-1-1: Lone Star series finale, "Homecoming," airs on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 8 pm ET on Fox.
A few weeks before the season 5 premiere, Fox announced that 9-1-1: Lone Star was canceled. Many speculated this would be the case for the series, and, thankfully, the writers were prepared for it to end. So, 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 was developed as a final season, meaning characters and storylines will (likely) find closure by the time the finale's credits roll.
7 Mateo's Fate
Mateo Is Being Deported
In 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 11, Mateo was out shopping with Nancy when he got into a fight with someone over a plant. Mateo didn't know the man was a cop. So, when the other guy took a swing at Mateo, the firefighter punched him, and the police officer arrested him. After being taken into custody, he was told he would be charged with disorderly conduct for smashing plants during the fight, but that would be the least of Mateo's problems. An ICE agent arrived and informed Mateo he was being deported due to his assaulting the cop.

Predicting Every Character's Ending Fate In The 9-1-1: Lone Star Finale
With 9-1-1: Lone Star drawing to a close, the future is uncertain for the 126. However, the show has left enough clues to make educated guesses.
Matteo is a DREAM-er enrolled in the DACA program, which permits him to live in the United States as long as he maintains a job and stays out of trouble. Unfortunately, ICE determined that his incident with the cop was cause for removal from the country. If he does so voluntarily, Mateo can possibly return in a few years.
The impending asteroid turned Mateo's attention away from his deportation. However, given that he survives the natural disaster, the apocalyptic 9-1-1: Lone Star series finale must reveal whether Mateo stays in Austin or is forced to move to Mexico. The episode should also provide answers concerning Mateo and Nancy's romance. He learned that she never wanted to get married to anyone in the penultimate hour, which threw him for a loop. So, Mateo's citizen status and relationship with Nancy are up in the air heading into the finale.
6 Paul Mentoring Jax
The Penultimate Episode Introduced Jax
Similar to Mateo's final 9-1-1: Lone Star storyline, Paul's closing arc was introduced in season 5, episode 11. During a call, Paul met Jax, a non-binary teenager who performs stunts for social media. They just want to be seen, which is why they do reckless things to get attention on platforms such as Instagram. Paul, a transgender man, had a heart-to-heart with Jax at the hospital by explaining his story and how he felt as if he had to prove who he was growing up. He reassured Jax they were enough and managed to get through to the teenager.
The episode finished before the asteroid's impact, and if Paul and Jax survive, the ending of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 should conclude their new mentor/mentee arc.
Paul invited Jax to Station 126, suggesting they might have a future career there, given their bravery. However, Paul wasn't expecting an asteroid to be heading for Austin. Jax arrived at the firehouse just before the asteroid was about to make with the city, and told Paul they wanted to help.
So, Jax ed the rest of Station 126 and took shelter underneath a firetruck. The episode finished before the asteroid's impact, and if Paul and Jax survive, 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 should conclude their new mentor/mentee arc. While speaking with Variety, showrunner Rashad Raisani explained why Jax entered Paul's life just as the show was ending. He said:
"When there were about four episodes left of our show, Brian Smith, who plays Paul, came to me and said, 'Look, in the pilot of this show, the way that Owen is able to convince Paul to stay in Austin, is he says, 'Somewhere out there in Austin is a kid just like you looking who doesn't feel accepted for who they are, and maybe one day they'll see a firefighter like you and believe that they matter.'' And he said, 'Wouldn't it be cool if before the show wraps, we made good on that little promise?' And I thought that was a brilliant idea. So Brian is the reason why we did that story, because he brought that up from the pilot and that led to the Jax story."
5 TK & Carlos' Adoption Of Jonah
The Couple's Adoption Application Was Denied
TK and Carlos' arc in 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 has partially revolved around the decision to adopt. While TK wanted to gain custody of his half-brother, Jonah, Carlos revealed that he never wanted to have children. Carlos ultimately decided that he was on board with adopting Jonah, but his changing his mind might not matter following episode 11.
The couple met with a social worker, who would determine if TK and Carlos were fit to be Jonah's guardians. Unfortunately, she decided to deny their application. She explained that their dangerous jobs (TK as a paramedic and Carlos as a Ranger) gave her pause about allowing them to adopt Jonah. The young boy has already lost so much, and TK and Carlos' high-risk careers suggest Jonah could lose them, too. Judd later gave TK advice on the matter, but fans must wait until the 9-1-1: Lone Star finale to learn if the couple can somehow find a way to adopt Jonah.
4 Tommy's Cancer
Tommy Has Days To Live In 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5
Tommy was diagnosed with cancer in 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 6. It seemed as though she would beat it after her chemotherapy treatments, and even Tommy was optimistic. All that hope came crashing down in the show's penultimate episode, though. Tommy's doctor informed her that her tumors were growing instead of shrinking, and one of them was pressing against her aorta, making it inoperable. She estimated that Tommy only had days to live, absolutely devastating the paramedic.

Don't Worry, 9-1-1: Lone Star's Devastating Update About Tommy Is Likely A Red Herring
The synopsis of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 11 teases a majorly upsetting update for one main character, but there’s more than meets the eye.
Tommy returned home and called her daughters, who were staying with their uncle. Instead of telling them the tragic news, Tommy simply told the two girls she loved them. Afterward, Tommy saw Charles, her late husband, standing before her, and she was convinced she was hallucinating. However, Charles claimed he was there to take her home.
9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 must explain what happened to Tommy, whether she is dead, is about to die, or will make a miraculous recovery.
The two talked for a while before Tommy fell asleep and maybe died. The scene of her allegedly sleeping on the couch zoomed out, and a ticking clock could be heard before it abruptly stopped, suggesting her time on Earth was up. But, the moment was meant to be ambiguous, leaving viewers with more questions than answers. 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 must explain what happened to Tommy, whether she is dead, is about to die, or will make a miraculous recovery.
3 The Asteroid Disaster
An Asteroid Is Headed For Austin In The Finale
9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 11 ended with the citizens of Austin bracing themselves for the asteroid, but the hour faded to black before it could make with the Earth. When the finale opens, viewers will undoubtedly learn what happens next. Given the flashforward at the beginning of the penultimate episode, 9-1-1: Lone Star evidently spoiled its asteroid ending by showing Owen's struggle to stop a nuclear meltdown.

The asteroid isn't the final intense tragedy in 9-1-1: Lone Star, it's the catalyst to the show's last catastrophe. When or if the asteroid hits the ground, it seemingly affects a nuclear plant, resulting in a possible meltdown, and it's up to Owen to stop it. The 9-1-1: Lone Star finale will address this latest disaster, revealing the fates of Owen and the other characters.
2 Grace's Return From Volunteering With Mercy Ships
Sierra McClain Exited 9-1-1: Lone Star In Season 5
9-1-1: Lone Star finale, but that doesn't mean the show can't close out her character's storyline. Grace decided to volunteer with Mercy Ships, an international faith-based organization that operates non-governmental hospital ships, at the beginning of season 5. She felt it was her calling. So, Grace left Judd and their daughter, Charlie, with the promise that she would eventually return. Judd struggled in her absence as he turned to alcohol for comfort until Owen helped him.
Yes, Grace won't physically appear in the last episode. However, 9-1-1: Lone Star can fix Grace's disappointing exit in the finale by informing the audience when (or if) she comes home and reunites with her family. Judd's arc can't come to a satisfying end without Grace. Hopefully, the finale addresses Grace's whereabouts, reassuring viewers that she and Judd will eventually reunite and live happily ever after.
1 Owen's Decision To Return To New York
Owen Accepted The Job In Episode 11
Owen accepted the job offer to head New York City's fire departments and leave Station 126 during 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5, episode 11. He was just about to inform his squad about his decision when the asteroid alert was sent to all their phones, making their attention turn elsewhere. If Owen survives the nuclear meltdown, the finale must confront his choice to return to New York City.
Owen could change his mind about accepting the job offer in the last episode. Perhaps in the aftermath of the asteroid and possible nuclear meltdown, Owen determines that he should stay in Austin and continue leading Station 126. Or, he will finally get the chance to tell the other characters about his decision. Whatever the case, there is a lot at stake for Owen in the 9-1-1: Lone Star series finale, and by the end of it, his storyline should be complete.
