9-1-1 Squashes Hope For An Eddie & Buck Relationship

For seven seasons, one vocal and large corner of the Buck came out as bisexual in 9-1-1 season 7.

New episodes of 9-1-1 season 8 air on Thursdays at 8 pm ET on ABC.

Buck's storyline in 9-1-1 season 7 gave "Buddie" shippers hope that one day Buck and Eddie would become a couple. The idea of them taking their friendship to the next level was seemingly plausible. Buck started dating Lou Ferrigno Jr.'s Tommy, but that certainly didn't seal Buck and Eddie's fate. Unfortunately, one episode in 9-1-1 season 8 might have.

Eddie Talks About His Sexuality In "Confessions"

Eddie went on a journey of self-worth and finding inner happiness in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 6, "Confession." During the hour, Eddie attended confession at church, where he opened up about his guilt regarding what happened with his son, Christopher. Later, Eddie bumped into the priest he confessed to. While speaking to Father Brian, Eddie stated that he was straight because he thought the priest was hitting on him. Eddie ing his sexuality evidently squashes the hope for him and Buck to become a couple.

9-1-1 season 8, episode 6, was the first time Eddie vocalized and confirmed that he was straight. Up until then, many (who were rooting for Buck and Eddie) hoped that Eddie's sexuality was fluid. But him saying out loud that he is straight certainly isn't a good sign for Buck and Eddie's possible romance.

Can Buck & Eddie Still Be Together Despite 911's Recent Revelation?

The Door Isn't Completely Closed

Even though Eddie's confession in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 6, significantly lessens the chances of his and Buck's friendship turning romantic, it's still not impossible. The cast and crew haven't completely shut down the idea of Buck and Eddie becoming a couple. In May 2024, when asked about the possibility of a Buck and Eddie romance, Ryan Guzman told Swooon:

"We just got to the point where Buck is having this own personal growth of himself, so it's like baby steps towards anything and if anything."

Oliver Stark has also been open to exploring a different side to Buck and Eddie's relationship, and showrunner Tim Minear hasn't closed the door to a potential romance between the two characters. So, anything is possible. However, given Eddie's comment in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 6, fans shouldn't expect Buck and Eddie to date anytime soon.
