After finding a new home on ABC for season 7, the hit drama most other procedurals, 9-1-1 succeeds because of its use of character drama, which perfectly offsets the over-the-top emergencies.

Despite being a bona fide hit for nearly a decade, the path of 9-1-1 has been anything but smooth, and the long-running procedural was canceled by Fox after season 6, only to be swiftly scooped up by ABC. Since Disney is the umbrella corporation that owns both networks, the move was an interior decision, but the success of season 7 has already determined the future of the show. Even after a shift in network and timeslot, 9-1-1 season 8 was quickly green-lit.

Longtime viewers of 9-1-1 know that anything can happen in the shocking procedural series, and this makes predicting the story of season 8 nearly impossible. Season 7 opened with a disaster aboard a cruise ship, and it's likely that season 8 will try to one-up that larger-than-life emergency. It's expected that 9-1-1 season 8 will be filled with shocking emergencies and a fair amount of drama as well. Bobby's resignation at the end of 9-1-1 season 7 could pave the way for drama throughout the season, but the bulk of the show will still focus on the various emergencies.

With mere weeks to go before the season 8 premiere, ABC revealed a teaser trailer that is one of the scariest emergencies the team has faced yet. After opening with text teaching the viewer that a human can't survive 500 bee stings, the image then fades up on a single bee as it polinates a flower. The bee then flies away to a gigantic swarm that is swirling toward Los Angeles like a massive tornado. Though 9-1-1 is known for its over-the-top emergencies, the so-called "beenado" might be the strangest.
