Two specific characters are clearly the best part of A Minecraft Movie may be mixed, with Screen Rant's own Mae Abdulbaki giving it a score of 4 out of 10, but it has been a box office juggernaut. As of this writing, the video game adaptation has grossed $930 million at the worldwide box office (via Box Office Mojo).
Because of the movie's impressive box office performance, a sequel needs to happen. Thankfully, the ending of A Minecraft Movie perfectly sets up a second film. Even though Jack Black's Steve returns to the real world at the end of the film, he quickly meets Alex, another popular character from the video game. This teases that they may travel back to the Overworld, possibly with A Minecraft Movie's other characters, in a sequel. No matter what the story of the sequel is, it is clear that Jack Black and Jason Momoa need to return in A Minecraft Movie 2.
Jack Black & Jason Momoa's Comedy Was My Favorite Part Of A Minecraft Movie
Black & Momoa Are A Hilarious Duo In A Minecraft Movie
Even though I am a huge fan of the video game, I didn't necessarily love A Minecraft Movie. However, even I have to it that there were many funny moments in the film. Most notably, Black and Momoa's scenes together were all hilarious. In A Minecraft Movie, Black played Steve and Momoa played Garrett. Even though their characters don't get along at some points in the movie, Black and Momoa have undeniable chemistry which needs to be further explored in a sequel.
Not only do Black and Momoa deliver hilarious lines in A Minecraft Movie, but their physical comedy is also top-notch.
Black is arguably one of the funniest actors on the planet, so his comedic role didn't necessarily surprise me. However, Momoa's turn as the immature Garrett actually really impressed me. Not only do Black and Momoa deliver hilarious lines in A Minecraft Movie, but their physical comedy is also top-notch. For example, the scene during which Steve has to ride on Garrett's back while they're flying through the air is hilarious, especially when they have to maneuver their bodies into an awkward position to fit through a small hole.
A Minecraft Movie's Ending Sets Up Jack Black & Jason Momoa Remaining The Franchise's Dynamic Duo
Steve & Garrett Become Great Friends In A Minecraft Movie
In addition to the aforementioned scene, Black and Momoa are obviously at the center of A Minecraft Movie's chicken jockey scene. Garrett's fight with the chicken jockey is undoubtedly the most viral moment from A Minecraft Movie, and once again proves how great the physical comedy is in the film. After sharing a lot of screen time in the film, the ending of A Minecraft Movie thankfully sets up both Steve and Garrett's return in the sequel.

A Minecraft Movie Perfectly Sets Up A New Villain After Malgosha's Failed Plan
The ending of A Minecraft Movie perfectly sets the stage for this dangerous Minecraft Dungeons villain to appear in a potential sequel.
Once Garrett and Steve return to the Overworld, they open a new video game store together, which confirms that the characters will remain close friends. A Minecraft Movie's post-credits scene teases that Steve will return to the Overworld, so it would only make sense for Garret to go back to the block-filled dimension, as well. Black and Momoa proved that they also have great chemistry in real life while doing press for A Minecraft Movie, which is great since it means that they will both likely want to work together again for the sequel.
A Minecraft Movie's Sequel Would Be Smart To Lean Into Black & Momoa's Chemistry
A Minecraft Movie's Sequel Shouldn't Split Steve & Garret Up
A sequel to A Minecraft Movie will likely include new characters, such as Alex, in prominent roles. Alex's inclusion in a sequel is exciting, but I hope this doesn't come at the expense of Black and Momoa's chemistry. Instead of splitting them up, I hope that A Minecraft Movie's sequel will lean into the chemistry between Black and Momoa. Therefore, after they clearly stole the show in A Minecraft Movie, I desperately want to see Steve and Garrett go on another adventure in the Overworld in a sequel.
