It was still a box office success, though, as the sequel went on to gross $297 million worldwide after being repeatedly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Day One is the franchise's lowest-performing entry yet, despite the prequel's box office earnings more than tripling its initial budget. It did not come close to reaching the heights of A Quiet Place's $341 million, but its $261 million is closer to A Quiet Place Part II's $297 million, and Day One only had a slightly larger budget. Day One did make $2.8 million more than A Quiet Place and $5.5 million more than A Quiet Place Part II during the prequel's opening weekend.

Krasinski has returned to write the sequel's script, and while casting and plot details have not been revealed yet, Blunt will likely return to reprise her role as Evelyn Abbott, as will Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe as her surviving children, Regan and Marcus.

With Eric (Quinn) and Frodo the cat surviving Day One, they could appear in A Quiet Place 3 as well, further connecting the prequel to the original films. Day One proved that a mostly standalone story in this apocalyptic universe can be commercially and critically successful, meaning that the franchise can also make more standalone films that do not necessarily have to connect to the Abbott family or to the prequel's characters.
