While Ava's latest purchase in Janine and Gregory’s Abbott Elementary love story, the two teachers have gained a lot of confidence since they first met at the beginning of season 1 and have gotten a lot more comfortable in their roles as educators.

While Abbott Elementary season 4 highlighted how much Janine has changed in season 4, episode 15, “100th Day of School,” this outing has also been great for one of the sitcom’s most beloved ing characters. Janelle James’ Principal Ava was initially introduced as something of a villain in season 1 since the underqualified, openly corrupt principal boasted about only getting her job because she blackmailed a member of the school board. However, by season 4, Ava had transformed into a genuinely competent, ambitious, and whip-smart principal.

Unfortunately, Ava’s trifling side still haunts her even in “100th Day of School.” Throughout season 4, Ava has vacillated between her best and worst selves, giving free speeches for the school district to inspire fellow principals while also quietly extorting money from the shady developers building a golf course near the school. For all of Ava’s positive Abbott Elementary season 4 character changes, she remains unable to resist a side hustle even when it could get the titular school into serious trouble.

Ava’s heroism came back to bite her almost immediately as her comments at the District Budget Meeting made her a new enemy.

In episode 13, “District Budget Meeting,” Ava had her most inspiring moment yet when she pushed the school district to provide funding for Abbott, only to then publicly pledge to split this funding between numerous less-resourced schools. Although he was impressed with her daring, Manny warned her that the district would now be desperate to prove Ava was misusing school funds. Meanwhile, her former sorority sister and rival Krystal was equally determined to uncover her secrets.

Ava’s Finances Are Likely To Be Scrutinised After Abbott Elementary Season 4 Episode 14

Considering how highly scrutinized her spending is, Ava probably shouldn’t have had an elaborate, expensive walk-in wardrobe installed in her office using money from the golf course developers. This could become an issue as Abbott Elementary season 4's story continues, since it is about the most blatantly frivolous purchase the principal has ever made. Luckily, Ava’s plentiful practice at lying and scheming means she may still get away with this.

Ava could claim that the wardrobe is a learning tool intended to help the students get acquainted with the fashion industry, or she could try to justify it as a necessary expense by allowing all the faculty to use the wardrobe. While Ava would likely despise either of these approaches, they would save her from further scrutiny by the school board and her old rival. As such, Abbott Elementary’s anti-heroine will need to find a fitting cover story for her extravagant purchases as the sitcom continues.
