Absolute Flash in First DC Artwork from SDCC

Absolute Flash will be helmed by none other than the acclaimed writer Jeff Lemire, known for his mind-bending work on Justice League Dark, Animal Man, and Green Arrow, as well as art by Nick Robles, most recently known for his gorgeously apocalyptic art in the pages of The Nice House On the Lake. Fans can certainly expect a different Flash than DC's regular timeline, as the image just dropped at SDCC shows a tormented Flash splitting in two, with the classic red and yellow colors of his costume given a whole new depiction.

Absolute Flash Races Into DC's New Universe

This Alternate Flash Will Run Alongside DC's Mainstream Flashes

Barry Allen, Wally West, and all the other speedsters are here to stay. But with Absolute Flash a certainty, there is new story potential for the Flash to go where he's never gone before, because DC's main continuity has held him back. As with Marvel's Ultimate Universe, DC's Absolute Universe gives them a chance to take the risks they couldn't take before. Meaning: Flash is going to run faster and further than he's ever run before - but the stakes will be so much higher.

But just why this Flash is screaming in the image provided is an unanswerable question. While the Absolute Trinity seem to be completely in control of their new looks, this Flash seems to be suffering, as his very Flash-ness is seeping uncontrollably out of him. With more than enough rogues in his famous gallery, it seems his speed might become his own worst enemy.

DC's Flash Gets a Dose of the Dark Side in Absolute Flash

Nick Robles' Mind-Bending Work on The Nice House By the Lake

Nice House By the Sea

Fans were left with more than enough questions about this Flash as DC ended their Comic Con with the news about Absolute Flash. Whether the Scarlet Speedster will be Barry Allen or Wally West remains to be seen. In any case, this Flash will be one of the full force of the Flash Family. What fans can be certain about is that Jeff Lemire is more than prepared to tackle the Speed Force. Previously, in Animal Man's New 52 run, Lemire completely reinvented Buddy Baker's powers and entire lore, connecting him to the already established Green of Swamp Thing, with the introduction of the Red and the Rot.

Lemire and Robles are both known for their work on horror tales, such as Justice League Dark and The Nice House On the Lake

Lemire is certainly one for altering the mythos of a character in a satisfying yet albeit startling way. Just how he will reinvent the Speed Force will be revealed soon, but it already seems like it's not as peachy as DC usually makes it out to be. Lemire, as a writer of the darker side of DC, will undoubtedly show the world a Flash torn apart by spacetime, as he brings his magic touch to the physics of time travel. And with Nick Robles as a fantastically unsettling artist, there is no end to the artistically mind-bending horrors they will put the Scarlet Speedster through.

Readers will learn whether this Absolute Flash will be able to outrun danger like the others before, when the book arrives in March 2025.

The Flash is the superhero name given to the DC Comics character who utilizes unparalleled speed tied to a dimensional power known as the "speed force" to overwhelm their opposition. Premiering in 1939, the original Flash arrived as Jay Garrick. Still, it would be superseded by Barry Allen in popularity and featured status, but the Flash is one character that has met many of their alternate selves. The character is typically seen as a part of the Justice League in nearly all incarnations.
