A Fated Encounter is the new Crossover Stories DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla and introduces the game's protagonist, Eivor, to Kassandra of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Players will need to upgrade areas of Ravensthorpe and complete a few quests for Valka before they're able to access the A Fated Encounter missions. First, players need to progress enough in England for Valka to come to the settlement seeking a new home.
Upgrades for Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Ravensthorpe can be completed with materials found during Raids. There are many Raid events for players to encounter as they explore each area of England, so finding supplies should be fairly easy. Once players build a hut for Valka, they'll receive the quest, "In Dreams." This quest will involve a trip to Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Asgard, but players can return by waking Eivor up at any time. When "In Dreams" is completed, the first quest for A Fated Encounter will be available.
Players will need to go to Valka's home to start the questline for A Fated Encounter. There will be a tent near Valka's hut, and approaching it will trigger an interaction with Edyt who comes from the Isle of Skye. After speaking to her, players will be able to travel to the Isle of Skye to investigate the nightmares Edyt's people are having. Once there, Eivor will encounter Kassandra and set out to find an ancient artifact.
Every Mission for A Fated Encounter in Assassin's Creed Valhalla
There are a total of five missions to play through in the A Fated Encounter DLC for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Players will need to collect items and solve puzzles in order to find the artifact Kassandra is searching for and complete the questline. Players will need to travel around the Isle of Skye to complete every quest. Each mission will offer players unique challenges starting with "Tossing and Turning," where Eivor investigates some concerning dreams and meets Kassandra for the first time.
Tossing and Turning
Valka and Edyt let Eivor know that some people on the Isle of Skye have had nightmares so severe that they were driven crazy. Valka also mentions that Randvi is somehow involved, so Eivor leaves to investigate the situation. Once players arrive at the Isle of Skye, they will need to travel to Edyt's village and speak to the highlighted NPCs. One of them will tell Eivor a warrior with a braid is waiting at the nearby church and will be the settlement's undoing. When players arrive, they will see a cutscene where Eivor and Kassandra engage in battle.
At the end of the cutscene, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Eivor will agree to team up with Kassandra to find the ancient artifact that's causing the nightmares. To clear the fog, players need to enter the church and find the Cursed Symbol. Players can get in by shooting the hanging object to create an opening in the floor. Then players need to go all the way to the back to grab a jar of oil or use an explosive arrow on the rock wall. The Cursed Symbol will be behind it. Once the symbol is destroyed, players can escape the area and defeat a few enemies before the last cutscene in "Tossing and Turning" plays.
Night and Day
At the beginning of "Night and Day," players will need to solve a Standing Stones puzzle in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The solution can be found by going from the message stone to the other side of the rock puzzle. There's a movable object there with crates surrounding it. Players need to break the crates, then move the object as far as it will go. If players climb onto the object and look back at the puzzle, they will see the solution. The Standing Stones puzzle will reveal a treasure map.
During the next part of the mission, players will investigate the Cave of Gold marked by the 'X' on the map. Once there, Eivor and Kassandra will be ambushed by a few low-level enemies. There is a pedestal with missing shards, but the pair have a falling out when Eivor confronts AC Odyssey's Kassandra about misleading them. Players will then set out to find the five shards alone.
Counting Sheep
In order to complete the next mission, "Counting Sheep," players will need to collect the five shards that fit into the pedestal in the Cave of Gold. They are scattered around the Isle of Skye and correspond to the triangles on the map players saw when they solved the Fairy Glen Standing Stones puzzle. Players can fight or stealthily assassinate enemies along the way to collect all five shards.
- Hungladder Shard: The first shard is in the restricted town of Hungladder, and players will need to sneak or fight their way to the shard. Players can find the shard at the center of the town.
- Dun Ardtreck Shard: At the southwest tip of the Isle of Skye, players can find a shard in the water. Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Eivor will need to dive down near the broken tower and head west to find the shard.
- Fairy Pools Shard: Players can go to the Fairy Pools area in the southern region of the Isle of Skye. Eivor can enter through the large waterfall to find the pedestal where the shard used to be. When players go back through the waterfall, a woman will be waiting, and players can either bribe her, fight her, or convince her to hand over the shard. This NPC will show up again later in the questline if players don't kill her.
- Excavation Site Shard: Players can go to the northwest tip of the Isle of Skye to find a shard underground. There's a rock wall that needs to be destroyed with a nearby jar of oil or an explosive arrow in Assassin's Creed Valhalla to reach the shard.
- Brother's Cave Shard: Players can find this shard by reading the letter inside the Brother's Cave, then following the trail of clues to a campsite with a few bears roaming around. Players will need to climb up to the wooden platform and shoot down the net of stones to obtain the shard.
What Dreams May Come
Players will return to the Cave of Gold in the next mission, "What Dreams May Come." Upon returning, Eivor will put in the five shards and gain access to the rest of the cave. Players can follow the linear path through the cave until reaching an open area with a few enemies. After defeating them, a cutscene will play where Eivor will be ambushed by hostiles, and Kassandra will in the fight. After the enemies are dealt with, players will need to solve a light beam puzzle in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
From the door, players can start with the pillar in the back left corner. Players will need to move it into the beam, then head to the one it illuminates and redirect it toward the door. With one beam complete, players can use the movable object near the door to reach the next pillar. Once the pillar is pushed into the light, players can go to the newly illuminated pillar and direct it toward the door to open it. Inside, Kassandra will see old objects from her past and will eventually stop following Eivor. Deeper in the Cave of Gold, Eivor finds the artifact, an Assassin's Creed's Apple of Eden.
One Last Sleepless Night
In the last A Fated Encounter mission, Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Eivor will accidentally crash a wedding with Kassandra. Players will compete in a drinking contest, a fistfight, and a flyting challenge over the course of the wedding. This is also where players can run into the Old Woman from "Counting Sheep," if they chose not to fight her. The "One Last Sleepless Night," mission is mainly made up of cutscenes, and after each one plays, then A Fated Encounter will be complete.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Google Stadia, and PC.
