Assassin's Creed Shadows reviews are now out, and we can see how it stacks up to some of the series' previous entries in the eyes of critics. Whether players are excited to play the new AC game, or simply waiting to have their judgments vindicated, I expect the reviews for Assassin's Creed Shadows are a point of interest for many. As of now, things aren't looking too bad for Ubisoft's latest game.
Despite Assassin's Creed Shadows' controversies hurting some of the surrounding hype, it doesn't seem to have hurt review scores too badly. Most reviews that are currently out are positive, and there are no overwhelmingly negative scores. Of course, players likely want to know how it stacks up to previous entries like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Assassin's Creed Odyssey to know if it is worth buying.
How Screen Rant's AC Shadows Review Compares To Past Games
AC Shadows Tied With AC Valhalla, But Lost To AC Odyssey
Screen Rant's review of Assassin's Creed Shadows gave the game a 7 out of 10. Our critic Leo Faierman listed the game's appearance and characters among some of its strengths. However, Faierman also noted the game involves some uninteresting side activities and overly easy combat, things that have plagued the Assassin's Creed franchise for some time now.

Everything We Know About Assassin's Creed Shadows' Claws of Awaji DLC
Assassin's Creed Shadows’ first DLC expansion, Claws of Awaji, allows you to discover a new mysterious island filled with rewards but also danger.
Seven out of ten is exactly the same score Assassin's Creed Odyssey's review was slightly more favorable, scoring the game an 8/10 instead of a 7/10. Still, this isn't wildly different from where Assassin's Creed Shadows scored. As far as Screen Rant is concerned, the difference in quality between these games is negligible. A sentiment seemingly shared by other outlets.
How AC Shadows Review Scores Compare To Previous Assassin's Creed Games
AC Shadows Is Right In Line With Previous Titles
Looking at Metacritic's composite score for Assassin's Creed Shadows, the game earned an 82 overall. This is two points higher than what Assassin's Creed Valhalla earned (80), and one point less than Assassin's Creed Odyssey (83). If I had to guess, Odyssey being more of a departure from previous games helped earn it a bit of extra favor, which wasn't extended to AC Valhalla.

Do You Need To Play Any AC Games Before Assassin's Creed Shadows?
Whether you're new to Assassin's Creed or a veteran of the franchise, AC Shadows doesn't require any special knowledge, though it might help.
As far as the critics are concerned, Assassin's Creed Shadows is basically on par with these previous entries in the series. If you liked Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, you will probably enjoy the new game too. Your opinion may waver a bit based on which setting and characters fit your personal taste better, but you can be somewhat confident about what to expect from Assassin's Creed Shadows in of overall quality.
