Although Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launched on November 10, 2020, Ubisoft has continually updated and improved the game, adding free content, modes, and challenges. The action role-playing game set during the Viking expansion onto the British Isles allows players to embody Eivor, a Viking raider. Although AC Valhalla received positive reviews, some players took issue with prevalent bugs and aspects of gameplay, which several of the game's updates aimed to address.
Like previous Assassin’s Creed titles in the series, AC Valhalla has extra purchasable DLC expansions. Currently, there are three of them: Dawn of Ragnarök, The Siege of Paris, and Wrath of the Druids. Ubisoft has also enhanced AC Valhalla by giving players free content, modes, and challenges. Additionally, the developer has updated the game to resolve bugs and tweak gameplay for almost two years.
Since its launch, Ubisoft has let players experience in-game seasonal festivals at Ravensthorpe, new skills and abilities for Eivor, the ability to change the look of armor, gear loadouts, and several new game modes and challenges. Attached to some of these updates are new quests, characters, and areas. However, players will need to get to a certain point in the game to unlock some of these additional features.
Seasonal Festivities Have Kept AC Valhalla Fresh Since Release
Ravensthorpe changes throughout the year depending on the season. These time-limited festivities, such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla's yearly Yule Festival, give the player a chance to take part in activities and earn new rewards. From December 17, 2020, the settlement has gained the Revelers' Hut and more buildings to accommodate the four festivals. To access these events, the player will need to have completed one story arc (Grantebridgescire or Ledecestrescire).
The Yule Festival takes place during winter when Ravensthorpe is transformed by snow. Eivor can in various festivities such as drunk brawls or archery challenges. By participating in these activities, Eivor can earn Yule Tokens, which let the player buy festive rewards from the Festive Shop.
Once winter has ended, Ravensthorpe will celebrate the Ostara festival with flowers and drinking. Much like the other festivals, the settlement will have plenty of new activities and rewards. Eivor can hunt eggs, do archery competitions, drink, and brawl. At night players can protect the Raven Clan from spirits in the forest.
AC Valhalla's summer festival, Sigrblot, is a fighting season that gives players new settlers and quests to prepare them for war. The season’s three activities center around training for battle: Test Your Metal, War Games, and Fight or Flyte. Completing these activities can earn players exclusive rewards. Additionally, Ubisoft gave players 50 free Opals and a one-handed sword.
Lastly, the Oskoreia season, which is only accessible if players have a settlement at Level 2, celebrates autumn. New challenges like horseback riding and a spectral tournament will appear, and a player will be able to unlock scary rewards. Furthermore, newly added quests will make Eivor protect foggy Ravensthorpe from harmful spirits.
An Assassin's Creed Valhalla Update Added Transmog
Added on 15 March 2021, transmog in Assassin's Creed Valhalla allows players to change the appearance of their equipment without affecting their stats. To do this, they must speak to Gunnar at the Blacksmith in Ravensthorpe and ask to see the merchant's services.
Once completed, players need to switch to the new Change Appearance tab and select an item to transmogrify. Then a new appearance for the item can be chosen from those available. The process will cost 50 Silver, and changed items will be marked with a star in the inventory.
Ubisoft Has Added New Skills and Abilities to AC Valhalla
Since AC Valhalla’s release, Ubisoft has frequently updated the game with new skills and abilities. Abilities released on February 15, 2021 include Berserker Trap (allowing players to attach a hallucinatory powder to an arrow that triggers with nearby movement), Battle Cry (Eivor lets out a scream that builds their strength and causes nearby enemies to stumble backward), and Shoulder Bash (pushes enemies back and destroys objects). The new AC Valhalla skills to unlcok for Eivor constitutes a long list. Some of these skills are related to the seasons, while others relate to new game content.
Discovery Tour: Viking Age Explores A New Side Of AC Valhalla
In a new mode for AC Valhalla, players can traverse the maps of Norway and England while learning about both countries’ histories. Embodying the roles of various characters, players will take on non-combative quests and learn what it was like to live between 872-878 CE. Although available on copies of AC Valhalla, Ubisoft has also released Discovery Tour: Viking Age as a standalone title.
Assassin's Creed Crossover Stories Explore Ties Between Valhalla's and Odyssey's Protagonists
This update was also for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, where several new quests and rewards that relate to its follow-up title can be unlocked. In AC Valhalla, players must have reached Settlement Level 4 and completed the quest: "A Wise Friend" to begin the Assassin’s Creed crossover DLC content.
A quest called "A Fated Encounter" begins with terrible nightmares caused by a close ally. These make Eivor investigate the isle of Skye. Assassin’s Creed crossover stories explore the connection between the two games' protagonists.
AC Valhalla's Armory Update Made Switching Load Outs Easier
On May 23, 2022, Ubisoft expanded Ravensthorpe again. This new update can only be accessed once Ravensthorpe is at Level 3, and the player has Foreign Supplies. Players may construct an armory building that will allow them to unlock and display five gear load outs. These load outs can then be freely swapped from around the world and can be of any combination of armor or weapons.
Free Game Modes, Challenges, & Content Have Been Added To AC Valhalla
Given to players for free on February 15, 2021, River Raids is an AC Valhalla gameplay mode that allows Eivor to explore new regions of the UK. Eivor is able to raid six river systems with their own unique map, separate from the game's main areas. Ubisoft has also updated the game with new loot, abilities and skills, rewards, and challenges relating River Raids.
The free Mastery Challenges are another repayable game mode added in an update. Players must visit various shrines to put new combat skills to the test and solve an ancient mystery. Three trials can be completed at each shrine: Bear (melee combat), Wolf (archery), and Raven (stealth). Each trial has its own pre-established set of gear and weapons. Upon completion of a Mastery Challenge trial in AC Valhalla, the player will receive energies that can be exchanged for weapons, decorations, and tattoos. To begin this challenge, a player must be at least Power Level 221, and have completed the "Uninvited Guests" main quest.
Released at the same time as the Oskoreia Festival, the Tombs of the Fallen are focused on puzzles and parkour. Eivor will explore large caverns scattered around England and discover tales of mystery and history. New loot is available, and players must utilize their parkour abilities to find it. The content is available by simply unlocking the settlement through the main storyline.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla's The Forgotten Saga is a new game mode that was released on August 1, 2022. Players can navigate a new, challenging world called Niflheim. This mode is only available once they have visited Asgard for the first time, and constructed a new building in Ravensthorpe. Niflheim is a hostile world with difficult enemies and can only be traversed in a single run. If killed, players will return to the start and will have the opportunity to upgrade Odin, Eivor's Norse mythology stand-in as the player character.
Aside from the new content above, Ubisoft has primarily addressed bugs, improved combat systems, and balanced game mechanics in updates. It is uncertain how long it will continue to update AC Valhalla, as the next Assassin's Creed game is not predicted to release until 2024. For a game that takes roughly fifty-five hours to complete the main story alone, Valhalla now offers even more experiences and challenges. Since its launch, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla now has seasonal festivities, new repayable gameplay modes, and much more.
