After months of silence on the project, the WandaVision played by Kathryn Hahn, in which she initially poses as the two hero's friendly neighbor Agnes who is constantly looking in on Wanda and Vision in the sitcom-like Westview. It is ultimately revealed she is the ancient Agatha, who killed all of her Salem coven including her mother in 1693 and has been subtly manipulating events in Westview in the hopes of claiming Wanda's powers for herself.
Both Hahn and her Agatha character were widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike for successfully subverting expectations while also leaning into the more humorous nature of the sitcom world and the confidence of her centuries-old villainous persona. Hahn would receive a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding ing Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, though would lose the award to Julianne Nicholson for her performance in Mare of Easttown. With WandaVision proving a success and introducing Agatha Harkness to the MCU, a spinoff centered on the character was put into development nearly a year after Disney+'s first MCU series and now an exciting update has seemingly been revealed.
After first being confirmed to be in the works this past November, Agatha: House of Harkness' release window has seemingly been revealed. According to the Writers Guild of America's official database, three new writers have ed the staff for the MCU show, which has reportedly been slated for a 2023-2024 release on Disney+. The Agatha: House of Harkness listing on the writers' profiles also confirms the show will fall under the comedy genre.
The three new writers confirmed to be ing the Agatha: House of Harkness writing room are that of Laura Donney, Cameron Squires and Peter Cameron. All three have prior experiences with the MCU, with Donney having penned WandaVision episode 8, Squires having written episode 7 and Cameron serving as both an executive story editor for WandaVision and co-writer on episodes 5 and 6. Additionally, Cameron was also a producer on the recently concluded Moon Knight and was a co-writer on episodes 3, 4 and 6 of the fellow MCU series.
While a 2023-2024 release window may seem a bit broad for Agatha: House of Harkness, it actually may offer a more succinct timeline of when the MCU series will premiere. With 2024 listed as a possibility for the show's arrival, the WandaVision spinoff could ultimately begin streaming sometime in late 2023 and run into 2024, which would not only allow it to conclude close the anniversary of its predecessor series but also fill the currently vacant MCU gap between The Marvels' July 2023 release and the future. As development continues on Agatha: House of Harkness, audiences can revisit Agatha's MCU debut with WandaVision streaming in its entirety on Disney+ now.
