Finding out more about how Robbie became the Ghost Rider has been a slow burn so far, but it looks like that's about to change. A synopsis for season 4, episode 6 suggests that fans will finally find out how Robbie became the man with the flaming skull in just a few weeks.

It's unknown how much the character's origin in the show will differ from the comics, but there will likely be at least some changes. There have already been a few changes to the Ghost Rider character, especially in the way he looks; the comics version of Robbie Reyes' Ghost Rider had a flaming racing helmet in place of an actual skull, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has opted for the classic skull look as seen with other versions of the character. It's quite possible that the AoS Ghost Rider's origins will similarly be an amalgamation of Robbie Reyes' backstory from the comics and the origin of a "classic" Ghost Rider such as Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch.

ABC released the following synopsis for the episode:

"Episode 4.06 - The Good Samaritan

The shocking origin story of Robbie's transition into Ghost Rider is revealed as the lives of Coulson and the team hang in the balance."

In the comics, Robbie Reyes wasn't actually possessed by a Spirit of Vengeance like previous Ghost Riders were; he was killed and brought back to life by the vengeful spirit of a serial killer named Eli Morrow. Robbie and Eli fought for control of Robbie's body for a while, though Robbie eventually won control thanks to the assistance of original Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze. In the end, Robbie made a deal with Eli that allowed Eli to satisfy his bloodlust but only against those who truly deserved the Ghost Rider's vengeance.

Most likely, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will lean heavily on classic Ghost Rider stories and possibly adapt the origin slightly to better fit into the MCU.  It would be interesting to see a take on Robbie's story from the comics, though, especially since it would leave the actual Spirit of Vengeance concept open for a Ghost Rider-focused show or movie down the line. Given that ABC already took a risk on the character by using Robbie Reyes instead of Blaze or Ketch, it's possible that they're going to keep it going by bringing Eli into the mix as well.

It remains to be seen exactly what Ghost Rider's origin will be, but some fans may be leery of where things are going with the character. There was some skepticism when Robbie Reyes was announced instead of one of the motorcycle-riding Ghost Riders, so ABC will have to keep working to win over fans who are on the fence over this latest addition. With any luck, however, Robbie's origin will be strong enough to win over the doubters.
