Ever since actor Hayden Christensen was confirmed to return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader for the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi series, there have been rumors of another Anakin appearance in the Ahsoka series as well. Having been Ahsoka's master before she left the Jedi Order near the end of The Clone Wars, the return of Anakin Skywalker's Force ghost following his redemption in Return of the Jedi would be huge for the new Star Wars show. Now, newly revealed Anakin references have further ed these ongoing rumors.
As seen in the second Ahsoka trailer, Anakin Skywalker gets namedropped twice. The first time comes from Ahsoka herself who references her decision to leave the Jedi Order which also saw her walking away from Anakin. The second reference comes from Baylan Skoll, a dark new Force-wielder who seems to have once been a Jedi like Ahsoka, claiming that Anakin had spoken highly of her. As such, it does seem as though the pieces are coming together for Anakin's eventual return as a Force ghost.
Ahsoka Must Confront Her Past - Whether She Likes It Or Not
In the new trailer, Ahsoka is seemingly grappling with the decision she made to walk away from Sabine Wren whom the Ahsoka trailer confirms was Tano's apprentice after the events of Star Wars Rebels. This mirrors how Ahsoksa walked away from Anakin and the Jedi path. Likewise, her disinterest in facing her past will likely be a key focal point in the Star Wars series, culminating until circumstances eventually force her to confront it despite all of its darkness and pain. This includes Ahsoka's duel Darth Vader as seen in Star Wars Rebels.
While she's no longer a Jedi, the new show will likely see Ahsoka attempting to figure out where she stands concerning the will of the Force. This is something she probably won't be able to achieve until she finds balance, something she'll struggle to attain until she reconciles with all that she's walked away from, and that includes Anakin Skywalker. It stands to reason that she likely still feels regret for not being there to help prevent his corruption to the dark side, hence her refusal to leave Vader when they dueled on Malachor.
Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost Would Help Ahsoka Heal
Without a doubt, Ahsoka communing with Anakin Skywalker's Force ghost would be so much more than a fan-service cameo. Reconciling with Anakin would help Ahsoka heal from the pain of the past, allowing her to move on and embrace whatever the Force has in store for her going forward in the Star Wars canon, giving her a new purpose beyond the Jedi she once was. Whether an Anakin cameo happens or not, it's become quite evident from this Ahsoka trailer alone that his legacy will be felt in the new Star Wars show all the same.
