- Wes Chatham, known for his role in The Hunger Games, makes his official Star Wars debut as Captain Enoch, a fascinating character in Ahsoka's story.
Captain Enoch has been introduced to Star Wars in Ahsoka episode 6, standing out as a gold stormtrooper in service of Grand iral Thrawn. Thrawn has at long last made his way to live-action, with Star Wars Rebels voice actor Lars Mikkelson returning for the role. Ezra Bridger has also made his debut in Ahsoka, with Eman Esfandi taking over the role to bring the beloved Jedi to life. These appearances have long since been anticipated ever since the story of the Ahsoka series was revealed, with the first hint being provided in The Mandalorian season 2.
Just as these characters have returned via live-action, so has the Nightsisters of Dathomir in addition to Thrawn himself. Their rugged armor has been made unique during their exile, including shreds of red tied around their armor. Of these stormtroopers is a brand-new character who stands out from the rest, most notably due to the gold in his armor and helmet. His name is Captain Enoch, and he's due to play in important role in the rest of this story.
Captain Enoch Is Thrawn's Right Hand Man: Has He Appeared In Star Wars Before?
Captain Enoch is (somewhat surprisingly) a brand-new addition to Star Wars canon, and did not previously exist in Legends either. Even with that, he has already proved himself to be the right-hand man of Thrawn during their time on Peridea, the extragalactic planet on which they've been stranded. He's the one who sees Sabine Wren off on her journey to find Ezra, and he's eager to get his men in line whenever Thrawn is on approach. Thrawn even introduces Captain Enoch to Morgan Elsbeth, Baylan Skoll, and Shin Hati, something which further emphasizes his importance to Thrawn's efforts. It's clear Captain Enoch has modified his armor, and this observation leads to an idea that goes much deeper beneath the surface.
Captain Enoch's Gold Mask Is Reminiscent Of The Nightsisters
The Nightsisters are key to both this story and this planet, and Captain Enoch's gold mask is very reminiscent of their people and their culture. The witches of Dathomir have been known for being able to breathe new life into the injured and even the dead, which has actually been seen in Star Wars and this series before. The reveal of Inquisitor Marrok's identity in Ahsoka episode 4 showed that the Nightsisters have already recruited someone who's been composed of their magic, which could have also been the case for Enoch. Thrawn does mention to Morgan Elsbeth that he's lost troopers during their exile, and thus it may be that Captain Enoch has been composed of Nightsister magick just as Marrok was.
Who Plays Captain Enoch In Ahsoka
Captain Enoch is played by Wes Chatham, an actor most well-known for his role of Castor in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I and Part II. He also played the role of Amos Burton, one of the main characters in The Expanse, throughout the show's six-season run. This is his official Star Wars debut, and he has brought a fascinating character to life in this story. While not much is known about Captain Enoch at this moment, his importance to Thrawn is emphasized, and his armor makes him stand apart from his peers. Chatham could very well be taking quite an active role in the next two episodes of Ahsoka, including a fight with the titular character herself.
With Thrawn preparing to head back to the familiar Star Wars galaxy the characters call home, Captain Enoch is set up to play a vital role in protecting Thrawn and assisting the Grand iral's effort. Whether he's more deeply involved with the Nightsisters is as of yet unknown, but he still stands as a symbol of how this Imperial Remnant has been rebuilding in the years of their exile.
Thrawn has had plenty of time to think about how he's going to take over the galaxy, and with Captain Enoch at his side for all of it, the trooper undoubtedly has quite the influence to what Thrawn has planned. As the intergalactic story of Ahsoka continues to unravel, Captain Enoch could very well become one of Thrawn's most important allies, and an inspiration for those who will follow in his footsteps.
Ahsoka releases new episodes Tuesdays at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET on Disney+.
