Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 5Ahsoka episode 5 featured two major flashbacks to the Clone Wars, though some characters were missing in action. Experiencing a vision through the Force, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) reunited with the spirit of her old master Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). Looking to complete Ahsoka's Jedi training, Anakin took Ahsoka on a journey into her past, resulting in these very exciting live-action flashbacks to the Clone Wars.
In Ahsoka episode 5, Ahsoka Tano re-experiences both the Battle of Ryloth and the Siege of Mandalore. As such, this younger version of Ahsoka (played by Ariana Greenblatt) interacted with Anakin during one of the Clone Wars' very first battles and one of its very last. While there were some fun cameos such as Temuera Morrison voicing Clone Commander Rex in live-action for the very first time, other characters could have made appearances as well. Here are 10 Star Wars characters missing from Ahsoka's Clone Wars flashbacks.
10 Obi-Wan Kenobi
First and foremost, Anakin's master Obi-Wan Kenobi could have made an appearance during the flashback to the Battle of Ryloth, having taken part in the initial ground assault during the extensive campaign as seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 1. Liberating several villages in the planet's southern hemisphere, Obi-Wan Kenobi and his forces of the 212th Attack Battalion freed several of the native Twi'lek population the Separatists had been using as hostages and human shields. However, the Battle of Ryloth was effectively a three-pronged assault led by Kenobi, Skywalker, and Jedi Master Mace Windu who all led different forces across the planet.
It stands to reason that Anakin and Ahsoka were quite a ways off from where Obi-Wan had engaged the enemy. However, it would have been very exciting to see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan all the same, if only for a brief cameo. Seeing the classic Jedi trio in live-action would have been extremely satisfying for several fans of Clone Wars and Star Wars in general.
9 Commander Cody
In that same vein, an appearance from Obi-Wan Kenobi in Ahsoka episode 5 would have likely featured Clone Commander Cody of the 212th as well. A reliable and trusted commander, Cody is a fan-favorite clone trooper who tragically fires upon Kenobi with the activation of Order 66 during Revenge of the Sith. As a clone, Cody would have been played by Temuera Morrison as well. That being said, Commander Cody recently received a return to Star Wars with a redemptive arc in The Bad Batch season 2 set during the early days of the Empire's reign.
8 Waxer & Boil
Waxer and Boil were two troopers of the 212th who were prominently featured during the Battle of Ryloth. Discovering a lost Twi'lek girl named Numa, the troopers took it upon themselves to protect her until she could be reunited with her family. Years later, Numa would go on to the Ryloth resistance against the Empire as seen in Star Wars Rebels, having been inspired by these two clones from her childhood. However, the lack of Waxer and Boil in Ahsoka is likely due to the same reason why Kenobi and Cody were not featured in the flashbacks either.
7 Mace Windu
While Skywalker and Kenobi had their respective conflicts across Ryloth, Jedi Master Mace Windu was tasked with liberating Ryloth's capital city of Lessu and taking out key Separatist leadership. Having been engaged elsewhere, it makes sense that Windu was not featured in Ahsoka episode 5. That being said, Samuel L. Jackson not returning to reprise his classic Star Wars role is almost as tragic as the lack of Obi-Wan, if not more so considering McGregor just made a return as Kenobi with his own Disney+ series.
6 Cham Syndulla
An appearance from Cham Syndulla would have been very exciting. The leader of the native Twi'lek resistance against the Separatists which eventually turned into resisting the Empire, Cham led the charge to take back Lessu alongside Windu during the Clone Wars. However, his status as Hera Syndulla's father would have made an appearance in Ahsoka a very cool nod to the present where Ahsoka and Hera are allies still fighting to maintain a tyranny-free galaxy.
5 Darth Maul
Jumping ahead to the Siege of Mandalore at the Clone Wars' end, a new live-action appearance from the former Sith Lord Maul would have been huge. Although Anakin and Obi-Wan had to return to Coruscant to save Chancellor Palpatine (as seen in Revenge of the Sith), Anakin split the 501st Legion with one half becoming the new 332nd Company. Led by Commander Rex, Ahsoka ed the fight to free Mandaore despite no longer being a Jedi at this point in the Star Wars timeline.
It was here where Ahsoka dueled and defeated Maul who'd taken over the planet as seen in Clone Wars season 7. However, even a brief appearance from Maul would have likely distracted from the ongoing lesson Anakin's spirit was trying to teach Ahsoka through this visit to the past. Regardless, one could imagine a similar execution being done as was seen at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story where Maul was portrayed by Ray Park while being voiced by Sam Witwer.
4 Gar Saxon
In Star Wars Rebels, Gar Saxon was the Viceroy of Mandalore appointed by the Empire to keep the world in line (preceding the Empire's eventual Purge of Mandalore). However, during the Clone Wars Saxon was a top lieutenant in service to Maul and his planetary takeover, wearing red and black armor with horns on his helmet inspired by Maul himself. While there were plenty of Maul's Mandalorian super commandos with spiked helmets and red armor in Ahsoka episode 5, none had Saxon's distinct yellow visor or accents.
The lack of an appearance from Gar Saxon is quite a shame, as it would have meant that the late Ray Stevenson would have had two roles in Ahsoka, firstly as Dark Jedi Baylan Skoll and secondly as Saxon (having voiced the animated character in both Clone Wars and Rebels). A brief appearance from the Mandalorian villain could have logically happened as well. As seen in The Clone Wars season 7, Saxon fought right in the middle of the conflict unlike Maul who remained above the carnage, waiting to duel Ahsoka in the throne room that once belonged to Duchess Satine Kryze.
3 Rook Kast
Rook Kast was another Mandalorian lieutenant in Maul's service who was noticeably absent in Ahsoka's Siege of Mandalore flashback. Like Gar Saxon, she too had a distinct yellow visor and fought in the middle of the Clone Wars battle. However, it seems as though the flashback was only big enough to feature a live-action appearance from Clone Commander Rex as the 332nd gradually overtook Maul's forces.
2 Bo-Katan Kryze
Having led her own Mandalorian forces alongside Ahsoka and Rex to the 332nd during the Clone Wars, it's surprising that Katee Sackhoff didn't reprise her role as Bo-Katan Kryze in the Siege of Mandalore flashback. Considering how prominent she's becoming in live-action with appearances in The Mandalorian season 2 and a major role taking back Mandalore from Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian season 3, an appearance from Kryze and her Nite Owls should have been possible. Again, it seems the decision was made to keep the focus primarily on Anakin and Ahsoka (which was probably for the best).
1 Ursa Wren
One of Bo-Katan's Nite-Owls during the Siege of Mandalore was none other than Ursa Wren, mother of Ahsoka Tano's apprentice Sabine Wren. Not unlike Cham Syndulla and Hera, seeing Ursa Wren would have highlighted the ongoing legacy of resistance and rebellion across bloodlines in the Star Wars galaxy. At any rate, the only Mandalorians to be seen in Ahsoka's flashbacks were those who chose to serve Maul.
Ahsoka releases new episodes Tuesdays at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET on Disney+.
