Ahsoka season 2 (and hopefully beyond). Having first debuted as the lead character in the animated series Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger learned the ways of the Force during the Empire's rule, becoming a Jedi while also helping the early Rebel Alliance. Although he was exiled for close to 10 years and missed the entire Galactic Civil War, Ezra's return to the known galaxy means he can become a much-needed Jedi hero during the New Republic Era.

As revealed in 2023's Ahsoka, Ezra Bridger was still alive on the extragalactic world of Peridea alongside the Empire's Grand iral Thrawn, connecting to the finale of Star Wars Rebels where they both disappeared. Played by Eman Esfandi in his live-action debut, the Jedi Knight has since made it back to the known galaxy with help from Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, though Thrawn has returned as well. With that in mind, Ezra will likely become the perfect Luke Skywalker replacement in Ahsoka season 2.

Ezra Bridger Is The Galaxy's Only Hope After Thrawn's Return

No One Knows How To Fight Thrawn Better

Out of any hero alive during this period of the Star Wars timeline, Ezra Bridger is certainly best suited to take on Grand iral Thrawn now that they've both returned during the New Republic Era. During the Dark Times before A New Hope, Ezra and his fellow Spectres alongside Phoenix Squadron were the primary targets of Thrawn's Seventh Fleet as the Grand iral was tasked with rooting out pockets of rebellion in the name of the Empire. As such, Ezra witnessed how Thrawn operates and his various strategies first-hand.

That being said, the Spectres' Hera Syndulla is now a general with the New Republic Defense Fleet and was present for many of the aforementioned encounters with Thrawn, and the same goes for Aldelphi Squadron's Zeb. However, Ezra is still the best pick to take on Thrawn given his skills and power as a Jedi Knight trained by Kanan Jarrus. The Force proved to be a key advantage as it was an element Thrawn struggled to predict, hence the Grand iral being caught completely off guard in Star Wars Rebels' finale when Ezra used the Force to summon a pod of hyperspace whales, sending Thrawn and his forces aboard The Chimaera to regions unknown (with Ezra also being on board).

Ahsoka would later reveal that Ezra and Thrawn ended up on the extragalactic world of Peridea. While Ezra and Thrawn's time as both rivals and exiles on the planet has yet to be fully revealed, one can imagine Ezra spent quite a lot of time learning how to evade and counter Thrawn and his troopers. As such, Ezra does seem like the best fit to lead the charge against Thrawn during the New Republic Era, just like Luke Skywalker and his various encounters with Darth Vader during the Galactic Civil War.

He'll Want To Rescue His Friends, Despite His Greater Responsibility

Ahsoka and Sabine Are Still Trapped on Peridea

Ahsoka, Ezra, and Sabine With Lightsabers

Just like Luke Skywalker who deeply cared about his friends and allies, Ezra will most likely want to try and rescue Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren who were left on Peridea at the end of Ahsoka after helping Bridger sneak aboard Thrawn's ship right before it jumped to hyperspace to return to the known Star Wars galaxy. With their roles having been reversed, Ezra will undoubtedly be torn between helping Hera take on Thrawn and wanting to save his fellow Jedi in Ahsoka season 2.

Ahsoka season 2 is confirmed to be in the works, and the fate of one key character may make the Star Wars sequel trilogy so much better.

Even with the threat of Thrawn on the horizon, perhaps Ezra may try to return to Peridea. However, that may be easier said than done, and he may not be able to do so right away if Thrawn triggers new dangers the New Republic will need to immediately address. Either way, it's easy to envision an Ezra in Ahsoka season 2 who's similarly conflicted in many of the same ways that Luke Skywalker was during his Jedi training during the original trilogy, such as when he left Yoda to save his friends in The Empire Strikes Back.

Ezra & Luke Could (& Should) Work Together

A Jedi Knight Team-Up Would Be Amazing

At any rate, it would be very cool if Ezra Bridger and Luke Skywalker finally met in the Star Wars timeline. After all, they were both born at the dawn of the Empire (only a couple of days apart) and they each had key roles in fighting for the galaxy's freedom as Jedi Knights. To that end, one would think that Luke should be one of the first people Ezra seeks out once he's caught up to speed on the state of the galaxy and all that has happened while he was in exile.

As established in The Book of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker is building his Jedi academy on Ossus. As such, a meeting between the two Jedi shouldn't be that hard to make happen. With any luck, Ezra will hopefully get the chance to work with Luke Skywalker at some point during the New Republic Era, if only for the torch to be symbolically ed on between the two Star Wars heroes.

Ahsoka season 2 is expected to be released either late 2025 or early 2026.
