Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Alien vs Avengers #2! Many Alien: Covenant. This became even more disappointing after a rumored plot point about Awakening started circulating around the internet, one that would seemingly never come to fruition. At least, until now, as Alien is finally giving movie fans the battle they were hoping for from the prequels.

In Alien vs Avengers #2 by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić, it’s revealed that the evil synthetic from the Alien prequels, David, found a way to travel the multiverse. This, after David and his army of synthetics successfully purge the Alien Universe of all organic life, using the Xenomorphs to do so. Now, they are on a warpath to ‘cleanse’ the multiverse of living organisms, including those of the Marvel Universe.

At the end of this issue, readers see that David isn’t the only one with access to multiversal travel. It’s revealed that the Engineers themselves unlocked the secrets to crossing into other universes, and they are planning to follow David through the multiverse and put an end to his reign of terror. Not only that, but the Engineers are using their technology to track the Black Goo within the Xenomorphs to locate David’s precise position, meaning there’s nowhere he can hide they won’t find him.

Alien vs Avengers is Giving Fans the ‘David vs Engineers’ Battle They’ve Been Waiting For

Alien's David with an Engineer behind him.

It has been circulating online for many years that the script for Alien: Awakening (reportedly written by John Logan) included the Engineers tracking down David and making him pay for using the Black Goo to obliterate Paradise in Alien: Covenant. One media outlet that reported this was Slash Film, which included a quote the publication cited from Empire Classics Alien Special issue:

"Logan’s script would have seen the return of Prometheus’ Engineers, with the species’ survivors coming after the genocidal David."

While the validity of this news has been called into question since it started making its rounds online, it actually doesn’t matter either way. Whether accurate or not, the point is that fans were hoping for this since reading about how it was ‘planned’ for Alien: Awakening. But, since Alien: Awakening was canceled, fans never got the ‘David vs Engineers’ battle they were hoping for. That is, until Alien vs Avengers.

Alien vs Avengers is Taking Awakening’s Story to the Next Level

Not only will Alien vs Avengers finally show the Engineers tracking down David to make him pay for the crimes he committed against them, but the limited series is also throwing the Avengers into the mix. This takes the supposed story of Alien: Awakening to the next level, giving fans the payoff of a battle between David (and his Xenomorphs) and the Engineers, while also including the Avengers, who are fighting desperately to save their world from the Xenomorphs.

Only time will tell how all of this will play out, and if the Avengers will be able to defeat the overwhelming forces from the Alien Universe (including David, the Xenomorphs, and the Engineers themselves). However, what is certain is that Alien is giving movie fans the battle they were hoping for since Alien: Covenant, as David may now finally receive the comeuppance he deserves.
