The makers of Total War series, which stretches back to 2000, and the team is also responsible for 2017’s Halo Wars 2. Despite those strong strategy game roots, Creative Assembly is prepared to dive back into the sci-fi FPS genre.
Alien: Isolation is a far cry from the previous licensed Alien game to hit the market, Gearbox's disappointing Aliens: Colonial Marines. Bringing back the horror of facing a Xenomorph, Alien: Isolation placed players in the shoes of Amanda Ripley, Alien protagonist Ellen Ripley's daughter. In the story, her goal is to find her mother while surviving the Xenomorph stalking her throughout the Sevastopol space station. Alien: Isolation was critically and financially successful, largely thanks to its faithful adaptation of the first movie's tone and smart Xenomorph AI.

The game is being COVID -19 restrictions but is adding more staff. Post-launch is also mentioned in job listings, but whether or not that means the game will have multiplayer or online components is unknown. While the new sci-fi FPS may be a new direction for Creative Assembly, the developer’s knowledge of strategy games could add a specific flair to this new IP.
Creative Assembly is moving in a direction away from its Total War roots again with this new IP. If Alien: Isolation was a test to see if the developer could create something other than strategy games, it was a great first shot. Now it is up to the developer to find the same success in a heavily crowded genre. Hopefully, it can capture lightning in a bottle yet again.
