K-dramas based on webtoons. Sweet Home was one of the first big Netflix original K-drama hits, whereas All of Us Are Dead came out shortly after Squid Game became the streamer’s most-watched show of all time.
Those who enjoy Netflix’s original K-dramas might have noticed that it can take a while for them to release new seasons. For example, Squid Game returns on December 26, 2024, over three years after the first season. Given how popular Squid Game season 1 was, it is safe to say season 2 will be successful. However, not every show can “survive” a long hiatus, with Sweet Home being a great example of it.
Sweet Home Struggled After A Long Hiatus, And So Will All Of Us Are Dead
Sweet Home Season 2 Wasn’t As Well-Received As Season 1
The final two seasons of Sweet Home were not as well-received as the first one. While this has to do with story decisions, such as introducing a lot of new characters and shifting the focus away from Cha Hyun-su for most of season 2, it also has to do with how long the show took to return. Sweet Home debuted on Netflix in December 2020, yet the second season only arrived three years later on November 2023. Such a long wait for the show to return meant that Sweet Home 2 had to meet impossible expectations.

While Sweet Home season 2’s new characters and lack of Hyun-su would be divisive regardless, the fact that it took so long for the new season to arrive played a role in how it was received. After three years of waiting for Song Kang’s character to return, viewers now had to get used to a plethora of new characters while wondering why the monster K-drama had become so different, particularly after the time skip. All of Us Are Dead season 2 is taking even longer than Sweet Home season 2 did, meaning it will run into a similar problem.
Sweet Home Filming Two Seasons Back-To-Back Made Up For Season 2’s Delay
At Least Sweet Home Season 3 Only Took A Few Months
The only good thing to come out of Sweet Home season 2 taking so long is that the show was actually filming two seasons back-to-back. This is why Sweet Home’s third and final season was released less than six months after season 2. In hindsight, Sweet Home releasing the final two seasons close to each other justified the long wait for season 2. It is difficult to say whether it was worth it, although Sweet Home season 3 was significantly better than season 2. Sweet Home 3 tied all the loose ends and focused on its main characters.
Why All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Is Taking So Long
More than two years after All of Us Are Dead was renewed, the Netflix K-drama still doesn’t have a release date. But why is season 2 taking so long?
It's unclear whether there are plans for All of Us Are Dead to film two seasons simultaneously, but the show has only been renewed for a second season as far as we know it. Sweet Home, on the other hand, got a double-renewal shortly after it debuted on Netflix, so it wasn’t surprising that the Song Kang K-drama produced two seasons back-to-back. Interestingly, Squid Game apparently filmed seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back, even though Netflix only confirmed that season 3 was happening a couple of months ago.
Will All Of Us Are Dead Season 2 Be As Successful After Such A Long Wait?
All Of Us Are Dead 2 Will Have A Difficult Time Matching The Success Of Season 1
All of Us Are Dead season 1 was a hit and remains in the Top 10 most-watched non-English Netflix TV shows of all time alongside streaming hits such as Money Heist, Lupin, and Squid Game. It now remains to be seen if All of Us Are Dead season 2 will match the success and overall positive critical reception of season 1. The zombie K-drama will have to regain momentum, both in of story and marketing. Fans of the show will continue to wait for season 2, but casual viewers will need to be reminded about the series.
This is exactly the problem that Sweet Home season 2 ran into. Whereas fans of the show had been waiting for years and following all the updates, a lot of viewers were no longer attached to a show whose first season had aired three years ago. All of Us Are Dead episode 12 ended on a cliffhanger, but season 2 may have to start the story somewhat from scratch to avoid alienating those who don’t everything that happened in season 1.
