Sasha Tran and Marcus Kim grew up together as best friends and potential partners in San Francisco in this rom-com, but they grew apart after a big fight, and Marcus chose to stay in his bubble in San Francisco as Sasha chose to reach her potential as a celebrity chef.

In the film, there are also minor ones that show that both are willing to work on themselves individually and together.

Veronica Setting Up Marcus And Sasha Reconnecting

Veronica hires Marcus and his dad's company to do some work in Sasha's rental house in San Francisco because she thinks the two should reconnect. Veronica grew up with them and knows they that had a strong bond as kids and she wants Sasha to see Marcus again.

If Veronica wouldn't have planned for them to meet, they probably wouldn't have reconnected and begun their relationship.

Sasha, Marcus, Keanu, and Jenny are playing a game that's similar to truth or dare and Sasha says that her childhood crush was Marcus. Marcus is surprised by this, thinking she never really liked him like that, and Sasha is pretty candid about her feelings.

She brings it up again when the two begin fighting about where their relationship is going. Sasha says she wants to be with Marcus, no matter what, because she loves him and she'd be happy to have him her in New York.

Sasha is surprised that Marcus is still living the same life as he was sixteen years earlier as he's playing in the same band, eating at the same places, and still living with his dad.

He doesn't have any interest in getting out of his habits and trying to move out of his comfort zone, but Sasha tries and succeeds in pushing him to try instead of being complacent, and he thanks her for it.

Marcus and Keanu start fighting and Sasha steps in to break it up. She decides to leave her relationship Keanu to be with Marcus.

Both of them were fighting and it wasn't fully Keanu's fault because Marcus was just as involved in the fighting, but Sasha chose Marcus anyway even though she seemed to be pretty happy and starstruck with Keanu.

Even when they were kids, Sasha and Marcus were inseparable. Sasha's parents were rarely home to make her dinner, so Marcus would come by every night to see if she could come over and his family for dinner.

It's a sweet and adorably nice gesture that shows how kind-hearted Marcus was at a young at and how Sasha was closer to his family than her own.

Marcus Moving Into His Own Apartment

Marcus has become content with his routine of playing at the same local club and living and working with his dad as he's done his whole life. Marcus is afraid to move out of his comfort zone, but Sasha finally convinces him that he should move out and try new things.

Marcus finally accepts that he should try a bit more and it's okay if he fails. Marcus decides to do this after he and Sasha break up, and he doesn't do this purely to get Sasha back he does it to work on himself in general.

Sasha Going To Hello Peril's Show

Sasha acts like she has no intention of going to see Marcus and his band Hello Peril play a gig, but she surprises herself and ends up going to him anyway.

She goes with her friend Veronica and they both end up having a great time and Marcus enjoys seeing Sasha in the crowd. Sasha continues to the band and tries to push Marcus out of his comfort zone because she truly believes he's talented and wants to help.

Sasha Buying Hello Peril Merchandise

Marcus is happy that after beginning a website for fans to order his band's merchandise that they're actually selling a lot of merch all of a sudden.

Even though Sasha refuses to talk to him at this point in the film when he visits her San Francisco restaurant looking for her, her friend and assistant Veronica let him see a room full of the merchandise and tells him that Sasha's the one that's been buying Hello Peril merch.

Marcus Holding Sasha's Purse

One of the biggest issues Sasha and Marcus have as they begin to rekindle their relationship is that they have vastly different lifestyles and it doesn't mesh at first. Marcus doesn't understand Sasha's lifestyle and Sasha thinks that Marcus needs to push himself outside of his own comfort zone, and it causes a lot of tension between the two.

They both reach an understanding and Marcus realizes that he should Sasha in her endeavors, saying he'll hold her purse on the red carpet any day and that he wants to be with her no matter what.

Sasha Honoring Marcus' Mom With Her Restaurant

Sasha has opened up multiple restaurants and most of them have experimental food and are focused on a certain type of high-class clientele, and Marcus learns to go along with it because it makes her happy, but she surprises him with her new restaurant called Judy's Way.

The new place she shows Marcus at the end of the film uses his mother's recipes and has an approachable and homey feel to it, unlike anything else she's created.
