Ambulance, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, was released in theaters on April 8. The movie follows Danny (Gyllenhaal) and Will Sharp (Mateen) as they rob a bank and hijack an ambulance when the heist attracts a police presence.
The Michael Bay-directed film features several other Hollywood stars, including Eiza González, Keir O’Donnell, and A Martinez, all with impressive resumes and projects of critical acclaim. As such, audience may recognize them from some of their most highly regarded work from recent years.
Jake Gyllenhaal
Gyllenhaal plays Danny Sharp, a criminal known for his frequent robberies. He has an insatiable desire for money and material things. The only person he seems to actually care about is his brother, Will, though he has an interesting way of showing it.
Jake Gyllenhaal has proven his range as an actor with the shows and movies he has been a part of. He has starred in a variety of genres, from sci-fi and thriller to romance and films based on true stories. He is particularly great at roles that force him to channel a dark or erratic character. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
Will Sharp, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is a sensitive family man, taken in by Danny’s family as a kid. He gets tied up in his brother’s mess to get money for his wife’s experimental surgery that insurance won’t cover. In contrast to Danny, Will cares more about people than money. He just wants his wife to get better.
Abdul-Mateen has made a name for himself in recent years as an actor, starring in critically acclaimed projects such as the TV series Watchmen, The Handmaid’s Tale. Yahya has a somewhat short acting resumé, but it’s proof of ‘quality over quantity,’ and it thrills fans to see what he can bring to the screen next.
Eiza González
Eiza González plays Cam Thompson, an EMT who is held hostage in the back of an ambulance by the Sharp brothers when their plans go awry. Cam comes across as a rock-hard character who goes through her job trying not to get attached to anyone she helps.
González started her acting career in TV and music videos. In 2014, she landed a role in From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and got her start on the big screen with Alita: Battle Angel. Eiza has since starred in several movies, mostly of the action, crime, and conspiracy genres.
Moses Ingram
Moses Ingram plays Amy Sharp, Will’s wife and the mother of his child. Amy warns Will to stay away from his brother as she doesn’t trust Danny. Little does she know, the brothers are pulling a heist to get money for a procedure she may need to survive.
With only several acting credits to her name, Ingram is relatively new to acting. Despite this, she has already landed parts in great projects, including Ambulance. Ingram is possibly most known for her role as Jolene in The Tragedy of Macbeth. She has also acted in a couple of short films, including the award-winning Candace, which earned the Jury Prize for LGBTQ Showcase Best Short Film at The American Pavilion Emerging Filmmakers Showcase.
Garret Dillahunt
Dillahunt plays Captain Monroe, the man who heads the police chase for most of the movie. He calls on several areas of law enforcement to aid in Danny’s capture. He is determined to end the chase with no more casualties, including his dog, who rides along for a bit of the runtime.
Dillahunt has many acting credits from all types of projects and genres. He is well-known for his roles in a No Country for Old Men.
Colin Woodell
Colin Woodell plays Cam’s new EMT partner, Scott. He is knocked out and left behind when the ambulance is hijacked. His character helps lead police to identify the getaway vehicle and embark on the car chase. He also urges Cam to be more open and honest about her emotions.
Woodell may be most well-known for his role as Aiden in Searching, and The Neighbor, in which he plays William Fichtner’s son and befriends their new neighbors, who aren’t as they seem.
Keir O’Donnell
Keir O’Donnell plays Anson Clark, an FBI agent who used to be friends with Danny. Clark tries to reason with Danny and does everything he can to prevent the cops from hurting him. Fans of Pretty Little Liars may recognize Clark’s husband as Brendan Robinson, the actor who played Lucas in the series.
O’Donnell is an actor who has a knack for comedies, appearing in films such as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Thrillers such as Return To Sender, Incarnate, and Pathology are also on his acting resumé. O’Donnell is essentially a jack-of-all-trades with the different genres he’s worked in.
Jackson White
Jackson White plays Officer Zach, a cop who simply has a big crush on a bank teller and is encouraged to ask her out on a date. His poorly-timed presence at the bank ultimately wrecks Danny’s plans and may cost Zach his life.
Jackson White is a relatively new actor, with not many acting credits as of the release of Ambulance. Fans of The Middle may recognize him from his role as Aidan on the show, a character who is just one of the many reasons it takes so long for Sue and Sean to it their feelings for each other. White has also starred in The Space Between and Mrs. Fletcher, a Kathryn Hahn-led comedy in which he plays possibly one of the most unlikable TV characters of the decade.
Cedric Sanders
Sanders plays Officer Mark, Zach’s partner in Ambulance. He cares about his friend and wants to avenge his kidnapping and injury. He feels he has something to do with the kidnapping because he was the one who encouraged his partner to ask the bank teller out.
Cedric Sanders may be most well-known for playing Sean in All Things Fall Apart and Reggie in dark post-apocalyptic sci-fi film 10,000 Days, and had a small role in an episode of Fox's 9-1-1. He stars in Rocksteady as BC, a dirt-track racer who finds thrill in the sport and uses it as a form of escapism.
A Martinez
Martinez plays Papi, a crime boss who aids Danny in fooling the cops for a cut of the money stolen from the bank robbery. When his son is injured, he becomes bitter and blames Danny, demanding more than just a share of the cash.
Martinez has a huge resumé of acting credits. His career ranges as far back as 1968 when he played Johnny on The Young Animals. He has done it all, from starring in more than 10 westerns, several comedies, and too many dramas and crime thrillers to count. He is also well known for his role as Jacob Nighthorse in Longmire and his roles in various soap operas, including The Bold and the Beautiful.
