Warning! Potential spoilers for Marvel Voices: Pride #1 by Marvel Comics
Marvel's America Chavez takes the spotlight alongside two other popular LGBTQ characters in a stunning new cover for the publisher's Pride anthology. In new variant cover art from Olivier Coipel, Chavez is ed by Marvel's first gay hero, Northstar, and the Asgardian warrior Angela. The Marvel Comics' art beautifully shows off the powerful heroes set to appear in the Marvel Voices: Pride #1 anthology.
America Chavez first debuted in the pages of Vengeance #1 by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta as the hero would later become the first Latin-American LGBTQ hero to star in her own ongoing series at Marvel Comics. Chavez, who comes from the Utopian Parallel, has the incredible powers of creating inter-dimensional portals that allow her to travel across the Multiverse. Chavez would eventually become a key member of the Young Avengers, the Ultimates, and West Coast Avengers, as she's still a prominently featured character in the comics. Chavez made her live-action debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she was portrayed by Xochitl Gomez.
Marvel Comics shared a new variant cover by Olivier Coipel for the Marvel Voices: Pride #1, where America Chavez stands next to fellow LGBTQ characters Northstar and Angela. Chavez wears her iconic denim jacket as she stands above a series of messages promoting "love not hate" and "trans rights." The backdrop for the stunning art is the updated pride flag, which is a nice touch by Coipel. Check out the cover art below.
Chavez will star in a story in the giant-sized Marvel Voices: Pride #1, which will see the return of the Young Avengers. The openly gay hero will the likes of Hulkling, Wiccan, Loki, Speed, and Prodigy in a story from Alyssa Wong and Stephen Byrne. The Pride anthology will also introduce a brand new queer hero from writer Charlie Jane Anders, while last year's Marvel Voices: Pride #1 2021 featured the debut of the hero Somnus (who will also get a story in the issue).
With America Chavez being a main character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, co-starring in an Defenders series from Al Ewing and Javier Rodriguez, and getting featured in the new Marvel Voices: Pride #1 anthology, the character continues her meteoric rise in popularity. It's great to see the openly gay hero continue to get a bigger platform, as the new Olivier Coipel variant cover art shows how important America Chavez has become to readers as she gets the spotlight she deserves. Marvel Voices: Pride #1 arrives in comic book stores in June.
