Sarah Paulson is not only a multitalented staple to the American Horror Story family, but the ambitious actress has her eyes set on a bigger prize: directing the new spin-off series, American Horror Stories. While the long-running horror anthology has been in the very capable hands of Ryan Murphy since 2011, Paulson is the perfect choice to direct at least some of the new show.

In fact, Paulson has been in every season of the show except for season 9, 1984, which she skipped to take a role in Hulu's political drama, Mrs. America. This not only proves Murphy's faith in Paulson, but shows that she has a ion for the show and directing. On Rotten Tomatoes, the episode holds a 100% approval rating, and was critically acclaimed. Clearly, this adds weight to the thought that Paulson has the talent to sit in the director's chair. Beyond that, as a long-standing alumni of American Horror Story, Paulson has worked closely with Murphy and knows his expectations for the series. She has an incredibly wide range as an actress of both the small screen and the big screen, and has dabbled in numerous different genres. Outside of American Horror Story, she has worked with Murphy on American Crime Story and will star in the Ratched, where she plays the titular Nurse Ratched.
As Paulson knows American Horror Story inside and out, has proven her abilities as a director before, and shows a clear ion for the project, there's really no reason not to let her step into a directing role.
